Man is the image of God.
Man is created in the image and likeness of God. After the Lord created the heavens, the earth, all the flora and fauna, He created His highest creation: man. And God said: Let us make man in our image [and] in our likeness (Genesis 1:26).
And further on in the Bible it says: And the Lord God created man from the dust of the earth, and breathed the breath of life into his face, and man became a living soul (Genesis 2, 7)
Each of us has a spark of the Divine, the image of God, an immortal beginning, the breath of life that the Lord breathed in man during creation. The image of God in man is, first of all, in the immortality of the soul, in its spirituality, because God himself is the perfect absolute Spirit; second, in the mind (the ability to think, be self-aware, and know God); third, in the ability to create (God is the Creator, and endowed us with the ability to create); and fourth, in free will. The lord is the spirit; but where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Cor 3:17).
God gave us the gift of love, the opportunity to love, because He Himself is the perfect Love. In each person there is an image of God, we can say that a person is a living icon of God, and we must see this image in each person, respect and love.
Man is threefold: composed of spirit, soul and body.
The spirit is the highest, spiritual and divine principle in us. In it is the image of God. The spirit inherent in the properties and spiritual aspirations in man. Man differs from animals in that there is a higher, divine, and immortal beginning in him.
The body is what makes us related to the whole animal world. It is taken from the dust of the earth, it has the same chemical composition as that of all living nature. The body is a reservoir of natural instincts, needs, and desires.
And finally, the soul. This is a kind of beginning of connection between spirit and flesh. The soul is responsible for the feelings, emotions, feelings and aspirations in a person. If a person leads a spiritual life, strives for God, all his nature, both soul and body, begins to obey the spirit, to be inspired; if, on the contrary, a person does not think of a superior spiritual life, lives with organic-bodily needs, the spirit and the soul begin to obey, serve the flesh.
Our body needs us to take care of it: nourish it, dress it, protect it from dangers, if necessary, treat it. However, above all, a person must worry about the mental state: after all, he is above the body. To live as the Lord tells us, that is, according to his commandments, to love God and people and, of course, to pray to God. Praying to God, we communicate with Him, draw close to Him and receive Divine grace from Him, spiritual energy that nourishes our soul.
