What is faith

Faith is that voluntary act and attitude of the individual, whereby he places the weight of his need upon and governs his actions by a trust object. In the spiritual realm, the trusted object is God and the voluntary act is induced by hearing, believing HIS word.
It is also a giving substance to things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen. Faith operates in a realm other than sight or outward.

Characteristics of faith

• Faith has no intruder between itself and God: When faith in God is strong, nothing can interfere between it, nothing can divert your faith in God

• Faith and hope: faith is not the same as hope, though they are related, faith is our foundation, But hope is our aspiration

• Faith is not an emotion that passes over us, but a conviction that operates through us.

• Faith is not a static attainment but a living principle. It is not an emblem that we wear on our chest, but a seed planted in the heart. It germinates and grows. Jesus compared it to a grain of mustard seed.

Since faith is a living principle, it has types. Paul desired to perfect that which was lacking in the faith of the Thessalonians 1Thess 3 vs 10

Types of faith

* Little faith:

Little faith is not God's standard for His people. This does not contradict the little faith that is only the size of a mustard seed. Little faith will not protect us from anxiety over what we shall eat and how we shall be clothed Matt. 6 vs 30-31. Little faith is not strong enough to meet the attack of fear Matt 8 vs 6

* Great faith:

Great faith is commanded by Jesus Matt 8 vs 1-10 and Matt 11 vs 5-28, twice Jesus found this type of faith in the foreigners.

* Strong faith:

Strong faith is what enable Abraham to believe for the birth of Isaac when everything in the natural was against it Tomorrow Rm 4 vs 20

Tested faith:

Tested faith produces patience, or steadfastness James 1 vs 3. Tested faith also is precious and being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ # 1pet 1 vs 7.
It is not the quantity but the quality of faith that counts
