The Lord's Prayer

Once the Lord prayed in one place, and when the prayer ended, the disciple said to him: “Lord! teach us to pray. "And the Lord gave his disciples a prayer, which is a model of prayer for every Christian.

He said to them, "When you pray, say:

Our Father, you are in heaven!

Hallowed be thy name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done, as in heaven and on earth.

Give us today our daily bread.

And leave our debts to us, just as we left our debtor.

And do not let us into temptation.

But deliver us from the evil one.

Yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, now and always, and for ever and ever. Amen

Jesus Christ teaches us to call God our Father. He says that God cares for us as His children if we turn to Him. He teaches: “Ask, and it will be given to you; Search and find; knock, and they will open it for you, for all who ask receive, and the seeker will find, and it will open for the knocker. Even if you, being wicked, give your children the blessings they ask of you, even more, Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him ”(see: Luke 11, 1–13).

Wanting to show his disciples that one should always pray and not be discouraged, the Lord told them this parable:
“In a city there was a judge who was not afraid of God and was not ashamed of people. In the same city lived a widow who constantly came to him and asked him to protect her from criminals. For a long time, the judge rejected her, but finally she said to herself: "Do not be afraid of God and do not be ashamed of people, but since this widow does not give me rest, I will protect her so that she does not bother me again. "(see: Luke 18, 1–8).

The Lord asked, "Do you hear what the unjust judge said? So, really, God will not protect people who constantly cry out to Him! ”

God hears the prayer of the humble, not proud. To some people who were proud of their piety and despised others, the Lord told this parable:

“Two people entered the temple to pray: a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, having converted, prayed to himself thus: “God! I thank you that I am not like other people, thieves, criminals, sinners, or like this tax collector: I will fast twice a week, I give a tenth of everything I earn. "The publican, standing far away, did not even dare to lift your eyes to heaven, but just repeated: "God! have mercy on me, sinner! I tell you that this man went home more justified before God than the first. Because all those who exalt themselves they will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted" (see: Luke18: 9-14).
