En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Pidan y se les dará; busquen y encontrarán; toquen y se les abrirá. Porque todo el que pide, recibe; el que busca, encuentra; y al que toca, se le abre. ¿Hay acaso entre ustedes alguno que le dé una piedra a su hijo, si éste le pide pan? Y si le pide pescado, ¿le dará una serpiente?

Si ustedes, a pesar de ser malos, saben dar cosas buenas a sus hijos, con cuanto mayor razón el Padre, que está en los cielos, dará cosas buenas a quienes se las pidan.
Traten a los demás como quieren que ellos los traten a ustedes. En esto se resumen la ley y los profetas”. Palabra del Señor.

REFLEXIÓN: • La plegaria de la Reina Ester nos viene consignada como acabado modelo de oración. A pesar del peligro que corre –y evocando con una fe firme a sus antepasados– decide, con inusitado valor, enfrentarse ella sola al rey.

Para tan riesgoso encuentro se prepara con una confiada súplica: «¡Ayúdame, porque no tengo a nadie más que a ti, Señor y Dios mío!». En una situación desesperada como esta, lo único que vale es, a final de cuentas, la radical convicción de que Dios está con nosotros, sin importar el tamaño o el género de la amenaza.

Sobre la oración nos habla también Jesús. Su eficacia tiene su origen no tanto en nuestra insistencia, sino en su bondad. En realidad, Dios sabe ya lo que necesitamos antes incluso de que se lo pidamos.
Pero le gusta que se lo pidamos, no para humillarnos, sino para que le mostremos amor y confianza. Es esta también una manera de darle culto, reconociendo su poder divino.

Si un padre no engaña a su hijo cuando le pide algo, mucho menos lo hará Él –siempre dispuesto a concedernos lo mejor y más conveniente– si se lo pedimos con fe.

REFLECTION: • The prayer of Queen Esther is consigned to us as a finished model of prayer. Despite the danger she runs – and evoking her ancestors with firm faith – she decides, with unusual courage, to face the king alone.

For such a risky meeting, he prepares himself with a confident plea: "Help me, because I have no one but you, Lord and my God!" In a desperate situation like this, the only thing that counts in the end is the radical conviction that God is with us, no matter the size or gender of the threat.

Jesus also speaks to us about prayer. Its effectiveness has its origin not so much in our insistence, but in its kindness. Actually, God already knows what we need before we even ask for it. But he likes that we ask him, not to humiliate us, but so that we show him love and trust. This is also a way of worshiping him, recognizing his divine power.

If a father does not deceive his son when he asks for something, much less will He –always willing to grant us the best and most convenient– if we ask him with faith.
