El Judas de siempre/ The Judas as always

Existe en la traición de Judas un componente fatal, un sino ineluctable, que en muchas ocasiones ha llevado a algunos a pensar que el execrado discípulo no hizo más que cumplir con el plan escrito en las profecías y anunciado por el mismo Jesús, incluso, antes de que ocurriera. Desde este punto de vista, el traidor más famoso de la humanidad no es más que un instrumento escogido por el destino para que ocurra lo que deba ocurrir, lo cual pone en peligroso cuestionamiento el grado de su culpa y, por consiguiente, el perdón que debe merecer.

Uno de los aspectos más infames de la traición es la ignorancia de quien la sufre. Cuando la persona que es traicionada no se encuentra al tanto de la situación, el causante de ella es aún más despreciable, ya que, además de su deslealtad, se vale de una serie de mentiras y de estudiadas argucias para mantener por cierto tiempo oculto su pecado. Una vez que se descubre su detestable secreto, la traición alcanza su clímax porque la víctima de ella se encuentra ya en plena capacidad para tomar una decisión que ponga fin a estas circunstancias. Si el individuo que es traicionado, en cambio, conoce de antemano lo que va a ocurrir, el impacto devastador se diluye porque, aunque el dolor y todo lo que el hecho conlleva tiene quizás el mismo peso, puede anticiparse y tomar medidas preventivas, es decir, puede adelantar el desenlace para evitar vivir por mucho tiempo en tan ingrata posición. Ante estas perspectivas, la figura de Jesús de Nazaret toma su inmensa y sagrada dimensión como hijo de Dios, debido a que, a pesar de que conoce íntegramente la verdad, nada puede hacer en contra del traidor, porque por encima del sufrimiento del hombre se encuentra el destino que el padre ha escrito para Él.

Desde el momento en que escoge sus doce apóstoles, Jesús sabía quién lo traicionaría, no obstante convive por largo tiempo con el grupo sin que salga de su boca, antes de lo previsto, el nombre del discípulo que lo entregaría a las autoridades posteriormente; y aunque algunas veces hace alusión sobre este aspecto deleznable que desencadenará el final de su existencia sobre la tierra, no se observan en su proceder manifestaciones de reproche en contra de quien sabe que le será desleal posteriormente. De manera que el resto de los apóstoles sólo se enterarán del nombre del traidor ya cuando esté muy cerca el final de los días del hijo del hombre en esta plano terrenal. Esto, por supuesto, dice mucho sobre el dudoso desempeño dela vida de Judas junto a sus compañeros de doctrina. La traición la conoce sólo quien debe conocerla, como ductor omnipotente de las almas, porque su sabiduría abarca lo que para nosotros es desconocido; pero la conciencia de cada persona tiene la capacidad de discernir sobre la naturaleza de los actos que emprende en su accionar por este mundo.

Es de hacer notar -por otra parte, si nos permiten este paréntesis de teoría literaria- que son los evangelistas quienes, con sus comentarios, le adelantan al lector de la Biblia el nombre del traidor. Con ese recurso narrativo van creando cierto dramatismo que intensifica las expectativas en cuanto al destino del Redentor; además logran acentuar la significación negativa de Judas a lo largo de sus relatos, lo cual resulta extremadamente conveniente para contraponer la magnanimidad del hijo de Dios ante el ruin comportamiento de Iscariote.

A partir de La Última Cena, cuando Jesús deja en evidencia que será Judas el apóstol que llevará a cabo la traición, las peripecias plasmadas en la Biblia no hacen más que corroborar el rol ineludible de Judas dentro del cumplimiento cabal de las escrituras, del destino que el Dios padre ha designado para el hijo. Tanto es así que pareciera no haber más opciones para el cuestionado discípulo. El acto más bochornoso y execrable está reservado para él. Pero no se puede perder de vista, reiteramos para puntualizar, la conciencia. El traidor, antes de cometer el acto execrable, nunca se nos presenta con un atisbo de duda, nunca evalúa su papel en esta historia crucial de la humanidad para intentar corregirlo. Por eso quedará marcado para siempre con el estigma de su culpa.

There is in the betrayal of Judas a fatal component, an ineluctable destiny, which on many occasions has led some to think that the execrated disciple did nothing more than fulfill the plan written in the prophecies and announced by Jesus himself, even before it happened. From this point of view, the most famous traitor of mankind is nothing more than an instrument chosen by destiny to bring about what must happen, which puts into dangerous question the degree of his guilt and, consequently, the forgiveness he should deserve.

One of the most infamous aspects of betrayal is the ignorance of the one who suffers it. When the person who is betrayed is unaware of the situation, the perpetrator is even more despicable, since, in addition to his disloyalty, he makes use of a series of lies and studied schemes to keep his sin hidden for a certain period of time. Once his detestable secret is discovered, the betrayal reaches its climax because the victim of it is already in full capacity to make a decision to put an end to these circumstances. If the individual who is betrayed, on the other hand, knows beforehand what is going to happen, the devastating impact is diluted because, although the pain and all that the event entails is perhaps equally heavy, he can anticipate and take preventive measures, that is, he can anticipate the outcome in order to avoid living for a long time in such an ungrateful position. Faced with these prospects, the figure of Jesus of Nazareth takes on its immense and sacred dimension as the son of God, because, although he knows the truth in its entirety, he can do nothing against the traitor, because above the suffering of man is the destiny that the father has written for him.

From the moment he chooses his twelve apostles, Jesus knew who would betray him, nevertheless he lives for a long time with the group without the name of the disciple who would later hand him over to the authorities coming out of his mouth before it was foreseen; and although sometimes he alludes to this despicable aspect that will trigger the end of his existence on earth, there are no manifestations of reproach in his behavior against the one he knows will be disloyal to him later on. So the rest of the apostles will only learn of the name of the traitor when the end of the days of the son of man on this earthly plane is very near. This, of course, says a lot about the dubious performance of Judas' life together with his fellow doctrines. Treason is known only to him who must know it, as the omnipotent director of souls, because his wisdom embraces what is unknown to us; but the conscience of each person has the capacity to discern the nature of the acts he undertakes in his actions in this world.

It is worth noting - on the other hand, if you will allow us this parenthesis of literary theory - that it is the evangelists who, with their comments, give the reader of the Bible the name of the traitor. With this narrative resource they create a certain dramatism that intensifies the expectations regarding the Redeemer's destiny; they also succeed in accentuating the negative significance of Judas throughout their stories, which is extremely convenient to contrast the magnanimity of the Son of God with the dastardly behavior of Iscariot.

From The Last Supper onwards, when Jesus makes it clear that Judas will be the apostle who will carry out the betrayal, the events recorded in the Bible only corroborate the unavoidable role of Judas in the complete fulfillment of the scriptures, of the destiny that God the father has designated for the son. So much so that there seem to be no other options for the questioned disciple. The most shameful and execrable act is reserved for him. But we cannot lose sight, we reiterate to point out, of conscience. The traitor, before committing the execrable act, never presents himself to us with a hint of doubt, never evaluates his role in this crucial history of humanity to try to correct it. That is why he will remain forever marked with the stigma of his guilt.
