Un gran pensador alguna vez dijo: “Si usted no sabe nada de la Biblia, comience aquí. Si usted sabe toda la Biblia, regrese aquí.” Este gran hombre ilustre hacía referencia a Juan 3: 16.

En medio de muchos criterios y posturas algunas conservadoras, otras más ortodoxas o aquellas de matices o de líneas más abiertas, surge un sin fin de temas pendientes, aspectos por concretar, algunas teorías y tesis aguardando con la esperanza de terminar en un concilio de paz donde todas las partes estén en total acuerdo. Los eruditos de la biblia y su constante búsqueda sobre la verdad y sus razonamientos lógicos complicando un poco su labor. Pero existe algo en lo que sí coinciden totalmente todos ellos, algo que le permite al fin tener una breve tregua de paz. Esta se encuentra en Juan 3: 16.

Este versículo ha sido traducido en más de 215 idiomas, Juan 3: 16 ha sido el evangelista más preponderante de todos los tiempos, el responsable en que millones de vidas no se pierdan, se convirtió en el himno nacional de todos aquellos que fuimos perdonados, este versículo nos brinda un lugar seguro donde poder comenzar y un boleto seguro donde llegar.

La mejor oferta que podamos recibir en toda nuestra vida, el mejor seguro de vida en la que podamos confiar, esto no consiste en nuestras obras y mejores esfuerzos, estas veintiocho palabras cobran valor para todos los mortales estando respaldadas en la obra hecha por el mismo Dios.

Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo: Un mundo conformado por personas egoístas, dictadores, terroristas, asesinos. Donde sus estructuras económicas son injustas, donde la salud y el mundo farmacéutico se ha vuelto un cruel negocio de una minoría aprovechándose de una mayoría, donde el injusto tiene ventaja sobre el justo, donde todo lo malo es considerado “bueno” donde lo torcido e inmoral se vuelve moda y tendencia, donde todo lo bueno y honrado se considera obsoleto e innecesario, donde las amenazas y guerras están disponibles como si fuesen el orden del día. A este mundo con tales carencias y otros tantos males mas Dios amó intensamente a tal manera que se movió acercándose a nosotros no escatimando su gran gloria para ofrecer lo mejor dé EL.

Que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito: Nadie calificaba para esta complicada misión solo El. Nadie tendría las exigencias necesarias, las características perfectas y ser intachable, solo El. Nadie en el universo tendría la capacidad en dejar todo lo perfecto para rescatar a nosotros los imperfectos, solo El. Quién podría tener el carácter y la obediencia firme por cumplir tal plan redentor aun sabiendo que debería morir, solo El. Todavía nosotros somos incapaces en ir a la Isla Sentinel del Norte (India) e intentar tener una conversación con la tribu sentinelese, sin duda tendríamos una muerte segura, ninguno de nosotros iría a un lugar sabiendo que moriríamos. Sólo un gran salvador podría salvar a grandes pecadores. Solo EL, el antídoto para salvarnos de esta pandemia de pecado, El mismo el puente para pasar al otro lado y no ahogarnos en nuestro propio mar de pecado, sólo El sería capaz y suficiente para cubrir el mal de este moribundo mundo y hacer resplandecer el bien sobre la humanidad.

Sólo el unigénito es la máxima expresión del amor de Dios y la garantía suficiente para rescatar todo lo perdido y desahuciado.

En esto se mostró el amor de Dios para con nosotros, en que Dios envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo, para que vivamos por él. 1 Juan 4: 9

Para que todo aquél que en él cree: ¿Pudiste notar lo noble que esta frase nos recuerda? Todo Aquel. Un Dios teniendo su derecho soberano de ser exclusivo decidió ser inclusivo para que todos pudiésemos acceder a la misma oportunidad, la invitación del cielo fue extendida para todos, no importa que tan lejos nuestro corazón errado nos haya llevado o que tan escondido el pecado nos tenga cautivo, hay un lugar y una promesa de no perdernos, para todos aquellos que en El creen. No fue condicional a un “simple aquél” aquél que sea generoso, aquél que trabaje dignamente, aquél que sea buen padre, aquél que nunca haya irrespetado un semáforo, aquél que nunca haya tenido un mal pensamiento o un mal deseo para otro, aquél que nunca envidió en su corazón el éxito de otro. Esta cláusula esperanzadora que encontramos en Juan 3: 16 nos incluye a todos nosotros los que no calificamos, a todos los que fuimos condenados a pagar nuestro propio mal. Las religiones no entenderán nunca esta invitación que Dios nos hace en sólo creer, para ellos debe existir una manera en cómo ayudar a Dios a pagar todos los gastos de la redención, cuando ya todo fue pagado por El, sólo nos invita a tener un acto tan sencillo que aún todo niño estaría en la capacidad de hacerlo, ¡Creer!

No se pierda, más tenga vida eterna: Hace unos días atrás mi papá fue ingresado al hospital motivo de una condición cardíaca, después de unas series de exámenes y observaciones médicas fue dado de alta, conversamos sobre todo lo vivido en su estadía en el hospital, me habló sobre algo que conmovió mi corazón. En el área donde fue ingresado a unos metros de distancia estaba un hombre conectado a muchos equipos de cuidados intensivos, días después este hombre tuvo que ser desconectado pues los doctores y la ciencia lo consideraron desahuciado, fue un momento desgarrador y triste para mi papá que jamás olvidará. Hoy día muchas historias son tan parecidas a esta, hombres y mujeres desahuciados por la vida, la diferencia es que esos pacientes andan por centros comerciales, de vacaciones o posiblemente en lugares más recónditos del mundo huyendo de sus propias tragedias, algunos intentando vivir pegado a religiones con la esperanza de dar respiro a sus almas cansadas. La promesa revelada que Juan 3:16 es tan grande y estable que aún tendrá vigencia en los últimos minutos de vida para aquellos que estén a punto de partir, y para los que tendremos un poco más de tiempo en esta vida nos brinda la seguridad de no estar perdidos y aun después de cumplirse nuestro tiempo en esta tierra disfrutar la vida eterna.

Hoy día para nosotros Juan 3:16 debe ser un fundamento básico en nuestra fe, el mismo texto conversa francamente con la humanidad de manera tan clara y sencilla, Dios amó, Dios dio a su Hijo, Dios nos invita a creer, Dios nos promete no perdernos. Tan simple y sencillo pero suficiente para llevar a toda una humanidad esperanza. Curiosamente tengo muy mala memoria y de aquellos pocos versículos que jamás he olvidado es precisamente este: Juan 3: 16. Lo llevo como un tatuaje en mi corazón. Aún sigue siendo para mí un faro en medio de mis oscuridades, una esperanza hecha promesa que jamás se podrá extinguir, y aun cuando la vida nos parezca injusta, todo pueda estar perdido y desahuciado Dios a más de dos mil años sigue dando la misma receta a todos nosotros.

A great thinker once said, "If you know nothing of the Bible, start here. If you know the whole Bible, come back here." This great illustrious man was referring to John 3: 16.

In the midst of many criteria and positions, some conservative, others more orthodox or those of nuances or more open lines, there is an endless number of pending issues, some theories and theses awaiting with the hope of ending in a peace council where all parties are in total agreement. The biblical scholars and their constant search for the truth and their logical reasoning complicate their work a little. But there is something in which all of them totally agree, something that allows them to finally have a brief truce of peace. This is found in John 3: 16.

For God so loved the world: A world made up of selfish people, dictators, terrorists, murderers. Where its economic structures are unjust, where the health and pharmaceutical world has become a cruel business of a minority taking advantage of a majority, where the unjust has an advantage over the just, where everything bad is considered "good" where the crooked and immoral becomes fashion and trend, where everything good and honest is considered obsolete and unnecessary, where threats and wars are available as if they were the order of the day. To this world with such deficiencies and so many other evils, God loved intensely so much that he moved close to us, not sparing his great glory to offer the best of HIM.

That He gave His only begotten Son: No one was qualified for this complicated mission but Him. No one would have the necessary requirements, the perfect characteristics and be blameless, only Him. No one in the universe would have the ability to leave everything perfect to rescue us imperfect ones, only Him. Who could have the character and steadfast obedience to fulfill such a redemptive plan even knowing that He would have to die, only Him. Yet we are unable to go to North Sentinel Island (India) and attempt to have a conversation with the Sentinelese tribe, we would surely die a certain death, none of us would go to a place knowing we would die. Only a great savior could save great sinners. Only HE, the antidote to save us from this pandemic of sin, HE Himself the bridge to pass over to the other side and not drown in our own sea of sin, only HE would be able and sufficient to cover the evil of this dying world and shine good upon mankind.

Only the only begotten Son is the ultimate expression of God's love and the sufficient guarantee to rescue all that is lost and hopeless.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 1 John 4: 9

For whosoever believeth in him: Did you notice how noble this phrase reminds us of? Every One. A God having His sovereign right to be exclusive decided to be inclusive so that we could all access the same opportunity, the invitation from heaven was extended to all, no matter how far our erring heart has taken us or how hidden sin has held us captive, there is a place and a promise not to be lost, for all those who believe in Him. It was not conditional on a "mere he" who is generous, who works worthily, who is a good father, who has never disrespected a traffic light, who has never had a bad thought or a bad wish for another, who has never envied in his heart the success of another. This hopeful clause found in John 3: 16 includes all of us who did not qualify, all of us who were condemned to pay for our own evil. Religions will never understand this invitation that God makes us in just believing, for them there must be a way how to help God to pay all the expenses of redemption, when everything was already paid by Him, He only invites us to have an act so simple that even every child would be able to do it, Believe!.

Do not be lost, but have eternal life: A few days ago my dad was admitted to the hospital due to a heart condition, after a series of tests and medical observations he was discharged, we talked about everything he experienced during his stay in the hospital, he told me about something that touched my heart. In the area where he was admitted a few meters away was a man connected to many intensive care equipment, days later this man had to be disconnected because the doctors and science considered him hopeless, it was a heartbreaking and sad moment for my dad that he will never forget. Today many stories are so similar to this one, men and women who have been evicted by life, the difference is that these patients are walking around shopping malls, on vacation or possibly in the most remote places of the world running away from their own tragedies, some trying to live attached to religions in the hope of giving respite to their tired souls. The promise revealed in John 3:16 is so great and stable that it will still be valid in the last minutes of life for those who are about to depart, and for those of us who will have a little more time in this life it gives us the assurance that we are not lost and even after our time on this earth is over we will enjoy eternal life.

Today for us John 3:16 should be a basic foundation in our faith, the same text converses frankly with humanity in such a clear and simple way, God loved, God gave his Son, God invites us to believe, God promises us not to be lost. So simple and straightforward but enough to bring hope to the whole of humanity. Curiously, I have a very bad memory and one of those few verses that I have never forgotten is precisely this one: John 3: 16. It still remains for me a beacon in the midst of my darkness, a hope made promise that can never be extinguished, and even when life seems unfair, everything may be lost and hopeless God over two thousand years continues to give the same recipe to all of us.
