LIVING ABOVE SIN (PART 1)
One of the biggest question and challenge in the Christian world today is the challenge of sin. There are a few facts you must know about sin and how to live above it.
Firstly, you live above sin by being born of God. Why? Because sin is basically a nature in man; man sins by nature. We were all born sinners by nature, therefore we have a greater propensity to sin than to do right. When Adam sinned, we all sinned in him, we took on the nature of sin. So sin came to us by birth. That was why David said in sin did my mother conceive me (Psalm 51:5).
If sin came by birth, then no amount of prayer and activity can take sin away from our lives other than another birth. Since we became sinners by nature, it will take another nature to be infused in us to break free from the old nature of sin and that is by the new birth. That was why Jesus said, “except a man be born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God…” John 3:3.
From the moment you get saved, you no longer sin by default because you now have a new nature by reason of a new seed that is in you. That new seed in you generates righteousness and not evil anymore. The seed in you becomes God’s seed, because He is now your Father, and so you will begin to look like Him.
At this point, when you do by mistake what you used to do in time past, you will feel so bad and terrible. Now you will confess it and God will forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness, whereas it was a normal thing for you before. This shows that your nature has changed and you are no more a sinner but a righteous person.
