Hello Steemians, it is week three(3) in the @SteemitCryptoAcademy with an excellent lectures from @yohan2on with task to perform on.

Homework Task:
Compare and Contrast between a Centralized and a Decentralized application under any of these categories social media, Browsers, Gaming, Finance, Gambling, file Storage, Trading, Charity, etc.

To begin with, What is DAPPS? It is known as a decentralized application and it is a computer application that runs on a distributed computing. They run on a Peer to Peer (P2P) network of computers.

CENTRALIZED APPLICATION: These are application software with different clients nodes server.

For the content of this homework, I will be making a post about the social media category comparing and contrasting between Steemit Vs Facebook.

STEEMIT

Steemit is a blockchain-based blogging and social media website, which rewards its users with the cryptocurrency STEEM for publishing and curating content, and is owned by Steemit Inc., a privately held company based in New York City and a headquarters in Virginia.
On July 4, 2016, Steemit, Inc., a company founded by Ned Scott and blockchain developer Dan Larimer, launched the social media platform Steemit as first application built upon Steem blockchain.

Steemit is a platform that combines Blockchain technology social media and crypto currency for the creation of a user-friendly content and community development.
The most notable thing about Steemit, which makes it stand out from other sites, is that you can see a earnings on every single post. This number is designed to show how much money a post has made based on its visibility and the interaction of the audience on the site. STEEM, the cryptocurrency at the heart of Steemit, is generated by every action taken by every user.2

MERITS

• What usually draw persons to Steemit is that it is a money making platform. Steemit draws audience whose ideas ranges from social media content and crypto currency knowledge. It allows people to share content and get paid doing it.
• Steemit is user-friendly, it allows it's users to connect with people all over the world. You are free to post, upvote, resteeming and comment on people's post
• Another unique thing about Steemit is that it is free from censorship. Users can post anything as long as it is not plagiarized, unlike other platform that bans it's users for certain posts or comments they deem not right.
• There are different topics to venture into . You are not limited to a particular topic to discuss or talk on.
• Your account is protected so far you have your keys and do not share with anyone. It will not be easily crackable.

DEMERITS

• It is hard to use especially for a newcomer who does not understand the way it functions. From the uses of the active, posting or owners keys to the activities of the different communities seen.
• The cryptocurrency market is unpredictable, so inasmuch as the coin could bullish in value, it could also be bearish. It is an unstable market.

FACEBOOK

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, along side with his friends. It was originally created for Harvard College Students 2004 but has evolved into something bigger. Currently anyone with a valid email could sign up for Facebook

MERITS

• Facebook is a platform that allows it's registered users to connect with friends, work colleagues or Peers online. It makes it easier to find a longlost friends or family, or to find the location of someone.
• It allows users to share ideas, pictures, music, video and articles with mutual friends online. Currently, Facebook is the world's largest social network, with more than 1 billion users worldwide.
• Facebook has a great chances of connecting business and skills to its prospective users that could be in need of its services.

DEMERITS

• There is a strict cencorship in Facebook. Many accounts have been blocked or banned for making posts that Facebook operatives assume are derogatory or terrorism. Recently, my cousremates Facebook account was blocked because she called out the atrocities of our government.

• Because Facebook does not have a strict Security system, ones location and activities are made private to the public which could put someone in danger.

  SIMILARITIES

• They are both social media for posting pictures, music, articles and videos. They are both created for the individual pleasures of writers. It helps one build its writing portfolio with different articles and contest post.

• You see post from friends anywhere in the world.

• Both are good for business as you don't know who could be in need of what you are advertising in your write-ups.

  DIFFERENCES

• Facebook connect in the form of different group directed at a specific need and interest while Steemit connect via different communities. They are devoid of limitations and varies from #xpillar #steemalive #cryptoacademy communities.

• Facebook don't pay for any posts, comments, and shares per individual while Steemit pays their users for their post, videos and comment.

• Facebook do not get involved with any community contest while Steemit get involved on daily and weekly contest where each entry has a prize attached to it. Contest include #dailydairygame #lidreport #mytownin10pics etc

• Facebook is created to stay in contact with friends and families. It allows it's users to send one-on-one messages and chat up with their friends. Steemit does not allow a one-on-one form of chatting or messaging. It is only geared towards community work.

• Facebook creates a chance to upload status with pictures and videos to keep in touch with Friends and families while Steemit does not have anywhere for status updates.

• Facebook account is logged in with majorly your email or number making it easy for it be hacked into while Steemit has a series of alphabet for each actions on the platform which makes it hard for anyone to hack into.

CONCLUSION

From the current pace of development, Steemit has much potential applications. It is working on bringing in Mobile apps for Android and iOS. There are efforts to make the Steemit platform more user-friendly and straightforward for the ones who are willing to engage on this website. Transformation will soon emerge in the Steemit platform.

Today, Facebook is a name that speaks for itself. Launched in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, the service has made a tremendous leap from an online photo directory to a global social networking service.3. Nowadays one is looked at funny if it is figured out that he or she does not have a Facebook account.

Both Facebook and Steemit are becoming social media platforms that individuals cannot do without. Most of the world population is seen on Facebook but not on Steemit. If Steemit could upgrade their platform to include more changes to suit the needs of its users, I bet you they would overtake Facebook, not only because you get paid for every post, you can also save your Steem in form of Steem power which increases in value. Through this alone, food will be placed on the table and much more money will be made doing what you love.
