What is genesis block?

Genesis block or zero block entails the first block of a blockchain. The blockchain hard-codes genesis block into software of applications.
Blockchain is made up of blocks that are used in recording details about transactions on the blockchain network.
Each block is identified by a hash tag which is unique to it. New blocks are attached to old blocks in the blockchain and grow until the end of the blockchain is reached.
Blockchain-based cryptocurrency is so secured because of the linking and stored history of each entry in the blockchain.

What are the significance of the genesis block?

• Genesis block as the name implies, is the beginning of the blockchain to which other blocks are attached. Therefore other blocks assumes the structure of the genesis block. Also the precised information about the format of the blockchain is bore by the genesis block.
• The world was introduced into cryptocurrency with the emergence of bitcoin curtesy of Satoshi Nakamoto. And it owns the first genesis block. Bitcoin created a platform for the emergence of other cryptocurrencies which all have genesis block.
• The structure of bitcoin genesis block set the pace for other cryptocurrency to follow.

A russian by name Satoshi Nakamoto is responsible for the creation of bitcoin genesis block, with a reward amount of 50 BTC. The russian locked up the 50 btc in his account and they cannot be used.
