Crypto Academy Week 5 Homework Post for [@sapwood] by @tmighty
INTRODUCTION
After a through study of the course work presented by the professor, I had been able to do four out of the 5 questions asked in the homework.
What will happen if you vote a before "5 mins age of a post" & after "6 days 12 hrs age of post" in steem blockchain?
If a vote is before 5 mins age of a post, the curator will not get up to 100% of his curation reward from that post. A particular percentage of his curation reward will go to the reward pool.
Secondly, after 6 days 12 hrs of a post, it is already late to vote a post. If a person votes on a post at this time, the upvote value given to that post will continue to reduce until the 7days for the pay out completes. For someone who does not have much SP, his upvote value can reduce to 0. This means at the end of the day, he adds nothing and receives nothing to and from that vote.
There have been many cases where I saw a particular amount of dollars as a result of upvotes from community members. I discovered that the dollar value reduced very close to the time of pay out. Sometimes the reduction is by $1, $2,or $3. I didn't understand that reason behind the depletion on my authors reward but now I do.
How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain? Include screenshots (Hint- Steemworld.org)
My able and amiable prof, I don't know this one. Would be glad if you can help me out.
Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation reward?
In the steem blockchain, curators who vote early can receive more than 100% of their upvote value. The 50% of the total upvote value of a post given to all the curators is not usually shared equally amongst them or according to the upvote value given by individual of them alone but by the upvote value given by individual of them and their position in the upvote of that post. If a person visits a post that has not been curated at all (ie $0) and votes on it with $5 then others voted on the same post to get a total of $35. $17.5 is shared among the curators. Now being a first person to vote on the post, the person will earn a curation value of 100% or more as curation value. f we apply the formula and calculate, we get $6.62 for the person that voted first and with $5.
See calculation below.
So the circumstances under which a person gets more than 100% curation reward are
- Vote a curation of a post within 5 minutes of publishing on the steem blockchain
- Be among the first 1-5 persons to curate the post whose pay out value is usually $0.
Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward? (Include relevant Screenshots) (Hint- Steemworld.org)
I picked the post published by @afunkycares published in the last 9 days.
When I checked, I saw that my position of voting is number 5, the time I voted was within 5 minutes age of publishing the post. When calculated, I got $0.102 as my projected curation reward.
See calculation below.
What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?
For every contest on the steem blockchain, the best contents in quality, organization, formatting and knowledgeability are chosen to be given the upvote due to them. People vote mostly on the wrong knowledge that they have that each time they vote, 50% of what they vote gets back to them. With this knowledge, they do not really look at the content of a post before curation.
I have learnt that curation is not ust when a post is upvote. Curation entails comments on a post, number of persons that restemed a post, the number of persons that upvoted a post. When all this are checked, the person/persons who got the highest number becomes the better content. Discovering a better contnt is not jist the work of the steemcurators. Steemcurators fish out the best contests by building upon the curation done by members of the steemit platform at large.
This is my entry on this homework task.
Thanks for reading.

Hello @gracellagift.
I am glad you have learnt from this post.
Thanks for your comment and for dropping by.
Your post is really detailed. I dodn't even know how to calculate this voting power but you have calculated it very well.
Thanks @yuceetoria.
Just look critically at what the professor has done and you will surely understand.
This is a well-detailed assignment. I have learnt more things about curation in steemit blockchain.
Thanks for sharing this @tmighty.
Thanks for coming by too.
Nice1.
Hi @tmighty, you made a big impression on this task. It took me a great deal of moving up and down the lecture before I understand that question no 2. Thanks for sharing.
Hi @meymeyshops
Kudos to you that was able to do question 2.
More grease to your elbow.
