Hello to everyone in this wonderful community. Greet you all in good spirit and I hope we all are doing great today. I welcome you all to yet another fresh week of the steemit engagement challenge brought forward by the steemit team in respect to improve interaction among users.
I will be participating in the engagement challenge that has been set by this community team today, which has been titled Internet of things and the blockchain. So I urge you all to stay put and enjoy the ride as I provide answers to certain questions given. I wish you happy reading.
Explain in your own words, what is IoT?
The word IOT is the abbreviation for Internet of things. Internet of things is seen as various physical items that are linked and connected to the internet and each of these items that are connected to the internet, exchange, collect, various data and information between themselves on the said internet.

The Internet of things was coined in the year 1999 by a man called Kelvin Ashton. Today, we have many devices that makes use of the IOT and also these devices being connected to the IOT are now connected to eachother and this has made it possible to exchange data and information between them since they are being linked to the internet of things.
Examples of the Internet of things devices are the smart phones, computers, gadgets, television, radio, certain home appliances, and a lot more that receives and exchange data and information from the internet and as such, they are interconnected with eachother having influence on themselves as though they work directly with the internet.
AIt works in a way by which for instance, when we turn on our phone mobile data, we get certain information from our notifications, and also if one doesn't know a place that he or she is heading to, with the GPS on our phone being connected to the internet, that person will get a directing map regarding the place he or she is going to through the help of the GPS that is being connected to the internet. So we can all see how it works.
What impact does the blockchain have on the Internet of Things?
Now talking about the impact the blockchain have on the Internet of things can be denote through the activities of users that are in a business together which help them to exchange and share information between themselves through the internet of things without a ruling existence of a central party in control.
Now the blockchain came with a wonderful system which we all know as the decentralized system in which power is given to everyone and it is not controlled by a particular body or central of authority.
So the major impact which the blockchain have on the internet of this is the decentralization and privacy system in which the internet of things operates on currently. With the privacy, we can have password to our personal things such as our phone, laptop, other gadgets, and so on. And this privacy is as a result of the blockchain system of operation.
The blockchain has sure impacted the internet of things through the provision of storing and saving certain data and information, recording transactions on our phones and computers, scanning, keeping records of certain information, and a lot more. So all of these are basic impact of the blockchain on the internet of things.
providing security is also a basic impact of the blockchain on the internet of things. The internet of things now uses the blockchain mode of security as though it is considered as the best method of security. Our phones and other appliances make use of the blockchain security system to secure files and important documents.
With the above mentioned, we can as well attest to the fact that the blockchain has sure in no doubt have impact on the internet of things.
What benefits does blockchain offer to the Internet of Things?
There are certain benefits which the blockchain offers the internet of things and I will be highlighting certain basic examples.
The blockchain has given a benefit of trust on the internet of things. With the help of the blockchain, users can now develop trust in the internet of things because of the security provided by the blockchain on the internet of things.
Gone are those day that the internet of things were vulnerable and easy to track down, documents can be tampered with and information could be jeopardized. But now with the blockchain development, it has provided a room for trust and as such, it has eradicated trust issues.
We can now keep our internet of things at ease with the knowledge that they are well secured and can not easily be tampered with.
Privacy is another benefit which the blockchain has imposed as a benefit on the internet of things. For instance, there are things we consider personal and as such we wouldn't want those things to be seen by anyone else except us.
So with the blockchain system of operation, the internet of things has been benefited with the privacy operation which users can save documents and important things with their password. So without the password gotten from the blockchain, those things can not be hidden.
The blockchain has also benefited the internet of things through it tracking of data and operations. Even the centralize financial institutions are making use of this benefits. With the help of the tracking ability on the blockchain, the internet of things has also borrowed such operation to track transactions from date back to present.
This has helped to a great extent in monitoring cash movement in certain financial institutions. It helps to track certain transactions that have been carried out and from where that transaction was made and to what address it went to.
This is another vital benefit which the internet of things has gotten from the blockchain. We can now be assured of a reliable security on most of our items such as our banking application, financial wallets, softwares and other internet of things.
The provision of a strong security which have a combination of both alphabets and numerals has made boost the level of security on our internet of things. Gone are the days whereby individuals could access our internet of things because of a weak security that we had then, but now it seems impossible to hack most of our internet of things because of the high security that has been provided by the blockchain.
There are lot's of benefits gotten from the blockchain that is assisting the internet of things for the sole purpose of functioning well which I have just mentioned the basics of them.
Explain two applications of IoT and blockchain.
Here I will be discussing two application of IoT and blockchain and they are as follows.
- FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION APPLICATION - Now the freight transportation is a process by which certain raw materials be it agricultural or other material are being physical transported. And it has an Iot-blockchain application for it that records information about the goods being shipped.
We all know that in this kind of transportation, especially the agricultural products, we all know that an Internet of things-enabled blockchain can be used to record certain information like the goods arrival time, the goods temperature, the arrangements anf positioning of the goods and so on.
Since it is a shipping transportation that has all it transactions regarding the goods records and information done on a blockchain, it will be quite imposing to change and this will enable the individuals involved to believe the information beyond doubt that it is reliable and hence make use of the service efficiently.
- COMPONENT TRACKING APPLICATION - This is also an Iot-blockchain application that helps to track certain devices that is carried into an aeroplane,
a car, and other transportation machines. The component tracking application helps to detect things by it tracker.
It gives an alarm whenever an unwanted item is carried into either an aircraft or vehicles and so on. This is done for safety purposes and agreement to what is accepted inside an aircraft or vehicle.
So the internet of things has certain blockchain ledger that are found and kept in it which helps one to see the main source of origin of certain object of a large entity of an item.
Explain a blockchain project that relates to IoT.
The gridpus can also be written as grid+. It is said to be a unique project that aim at developing hardware for digital currencies. A high provision of security has been attained by the gridplus to help secure individual's wallet and provide easy use of the digital currency without fear.
It has a device called lattice1, the lattice1 is a 5 touch screen and it is very simple to use and with it, crypto users can sure login and acess certain signing that are meant for smart contracts.
This project was developed to provide high level of security of the hardware crypto wallets. It also has an antenna which helps to connect to other smart devices as well as certain Internet of things.
Internet of things work brilliantly with the existence of the blockchain. A lot of IoT has been restructured through the evolution of the blockchain and life itself has been made beautiful through the blockchain development system. Security and privacy are all components of certain IoT gotten from the blockchain.
The blockchain has sure done a lot to the extent that centralized financial institutions are now making use of the blockchain system of security and tracking tracking transactions.
When we go to the bank, before we get past the security check there is a gadget that is used to scan for certain items that are not allowed in the bank, also there is this bank security door system that tracks certain items that are not allowed to be carried inside the bank on our body or bags. This is part of the IoT benefit gotten from the blockchain.

Because here you don't need any government issued ID or anything like this to proof your identity you just need a virtual address that's it. So there are no risk that someday anybody can access your data or sell that or use for any bad purpose.
Yes, our IoT devices store information about us on them and since it's in the hands of the central authority, it can be easily hacked. That's why the blockchain is very useful because the data about us on the IoT devices are stored on the peer-to-peer system that is impossible to hack.
Furthermore, with the blockchain, our IoT devices continue to work everytime without having issues with server, the peer-to-peer on the blockchain continues to work so that our devices can be used at anytime.
The extraordinary benefits that we can get from this blockchain-based IoT. We can detect the items in the passenger's luggage without having to unpack the contents. Even if he hid the drugs in a place where it was hard to see, this tool would help in detecting them,
