It is the first week of season number 3 engagement challenge contest organised by the steemitblog and I'm so delighted to be a participant in this amazing contest today. The crypto academy as we all know has always been part of the engagement challenge and today we are going to be discussing yet another interesting topic known as Metaverse.

Define your understanding of the Metaverse. What has the Metaverse aimed to achieve? Is Metaverse here fully with us yet?
Technology as we all know keeps improving day by day. Before this time, the internet only allows browsing and searching for information etc. As time progresses we have seen other functions of the internet other than just browsing. We saw an improvement where people now communicate via chat virtually. As time goes on an improvement which results in video calls, gaming etc also came into existence.
From the little analysis, I have presented above, you will notice that technology is drawing closer to us on daily basis. A Metaverse is a form of technology in which people are represented using avatars in the virtual world. This technology is such that you can be sitting in the comfort of your home and yet travel all over the world. You can have meetings, buy an asset, play games and do everything you do in real life in the virtual world.
The Metaverse is a virtual world in which anytime you put on the virtual headset you will see yourself represented by your unique avatar. Most times you want to fight a battle in the virtual world and then you meet some avatar who wants to defeat you at some point you will scream and remove the headset because you are almost killed in the virtual world and once you do that you become scared and say so this isn't happening.
In summary, we can see Metaverse as a form of technology where people can be represented worldwide using an avatar in the virtual world. As a person, you don't need to be present in the meeting physically, you can be in the comfort of your home and then have a meeting with people all over the world as if you are physically in the meeting. Metaverse is one of the technologies that is gaining ground like blockchain technology.
Facebook is one of the social media which has seen the advancement of metaverse technology and has moved to integrate it into its platform. This will go a long way in making metaverse well known because almost everyone uses Facebook applications. The aim is to enable people to communicate better via the virtual world.
What has the Metaverse aimed to achieve?
The main aim of Metaverse is to create a virtual world that can represent the real world. This will enable people to perform more actions which may not have been possible in the real world. The distance barrier to meeting people that are far away is one major thing that the Metaverse aims to eliminate. So, Metaverse gives you an opportunity which you may not have had in the real world.
Is Metaverse here fully with us yet?
Metaverse is not fully with us yet and this is because of some limitations in technology. I'm certain that with the way technology is improving almost daily basis, it won't be long again for Metaverse to be fully with us. Currently, works are seriously in place to bring the technology to Facebook which happens to be one of the biggest social media platforms and immediately after it comes then we will know that it is fully with us since most people use Facebook.
State the technologies that can be utilized to achieve Security, Ownership, and others in the Metaverse. In your own words, how are the technologies going to be utilized to achieve security and ownership? (Include any components of the technologies that would be of great advantage to the development of Metaverse).
Technologies used in Metaverse to achieve security as well as ownership can include;
- Blockchain
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Virtual Reality (VR)
Blockchain
The importance of blockchain when it comes to security and ownership can not be over-emphasized. Metaverse uses blockchain technology which helps to validate every data transaction within the Metaverse. This will also help to secure data against any form of theft. The blockchain is the answer when it comes to security and total ownership because the use of private and public keys of users will be left with them alone.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
This is also an important part of the Metaverse when it comes to security because, with the help of AI, actions in the virtual world can be automated and also any form of threat can also be dictated and dealt with accordingly.
Virtual Reality (VR)
The main aim of Metaverse is to enable people to interact without any borders in the virtual world. So this plays an important role in Metaverse as it allows collaboration of people all over the world in the virtual space. So the sensory experience that people get is from virtual reality.
Do we have any Gamification developments that look like the Metaverse? Discuss any two protocols and how they work.
Yes, many gamification developments look like the Metaverse;
- Decentraland
- Axie Infinity
- Horizon worlds
- The Sandbox
Decentraland
This is another game that looks like Metaverse, where players can own their land and also trade it. The platform just like the real world has a space where you can lease out your land to other users within some periods and collect it back when the time has expired I.e if you are not ready to sell your plot. In our world today we have landlords who lease out their houses for periods and they get paid. The decentraland platform has two coins which are used to carry out activities on the platform namely MANA and LAND.
Axie Infinity
This is one of the games that look like Metaverse. It is a play-and-earn game that is built on the Ethereum blockchain. Here, the Axies engage with one another in a fight and whoever wins gets some sort of reward and that is the reason it is called play and earn. Here in the game, you can buy land, and also build houses which is something that usually happens in the real world now happening in the virtual world.
The rewards players get for defeating their opponent in the game are SLP and AXS. This token are needed to help you breed your Axies. So with this token players can buy and build a community where they can exchange their Axies for cryptocurrency like ethereum.

As we all know that despite how good the Metaverse is looking in our explanations above, there are still some limitations and in this section, we will be looking at the Pros and the Cons of the Metaverse technology.
Pros Of Metaverse
1- Removal of Distance Barrier:-This is one of the most important advantages of Metaverse technology. Once you are in the virtual world, it will look as if you are together with the person you are communicating with no matter the distance between the person.
2- Upgrade of social media platform:-With Metaverse in place, social media platforms can upgrade to a more suitable way of usage. Instead of the normal video call, you can have virtual interaction I.e face to face with your avatar representing you with those you wish to communicate with.
3- Enhance learning:-Learning is made easier and more interesting because instead of the normal video clip classes, you can be present in the classroom yourself and participate in all that is going on using your unique avatar. This will encourage a lot of people to learn even better because knowledge is transmitted better when the learner is completely into it.
4- Boost the usage of cryptocurrency:- Since the means of exchange in Metaverse is a cryptocurrency, we have seen a rise in some tokens recently because of the adoption of the technology. So with that being said, it is expected that when this technology comes fully to our door steps cryptocurrency should all rise significantly.
Cons Of Metaverse
1- Addiction Problem:-There is a very high chance of people becoming addicted to Metaverse just like we see today a lot of children have been addicted to games and can spend hours without doing any other thing but just playing it. The same thing will be the case with the Metaverse.
2- Maintanance Cost:-Since the Metaverse is a very high technology, maintaining it will be quite very expensive. The Metaverse uses a 3D display which means it will only run on advanced sophisticated devices and can only be affordable and maintained by people who have the money.
3- Problems of inadequate internet network:-Internet networks are not stable just like the one in my country. You can end up losing a lot of money during a virtual transaction when you have issues with an unstable internet network. Since it is a virtual world, there is a tendency that conversation may not go on smoothly due to network issues.

Yes, I believe so much in the future of the Metaverse and I'm confident that it will be fully adopted by most developed nations that have all the facilities needed such as a fast internet network like 5G. As I have mentioned earlier, there are crypto projects that have adopted this Metaverse and within a short period, the price of the asset moved significantly. In the same way, if the Metaverse is accepted in every aspect of life it will make things easier than expected.
Conclusion
The Metaverse as we have seen is a technology that will bridge the communication gap and also help us perform activities which ordinarily we couldn't have done in the real world. I'm confident that this technology will be fully with us at no distance time. It will change a lot and make things easier. I want to believe I have been able to explain in my understanding of what Metaverse is all about by the few question I have answered.
The way you have explained Metaverse is good and I love to read your post on it. I agree with you that when Metaverse is fully here, it will lead to addiction and the cost of operating the Metaverse may be more than what we know of, as at this time.

You are right , fb will take it long but i fear it may hegemonise the metaverse and may lead to brutal exploitation by central forces controlling the system.
Absolutely right because the level of immersion is going to create amazing graphics and a trap for kids .
3D avatars on both sides will give real feel despite being virtual. But i dear we may forget the real world and may disrupt our traditons . We may be virtually socialised but in true sense we may be isolated .

It’s always nice reading your post friend. Metaverse is really going to solve distance barriers and probably render passports not that useful.🤭 But the glaring cons of addiction and loss of culture baffles me.
