Hello steemian ...
This is my new post in the Steemit Crypto Academy community season 3, on this homework I will be working on Beginners' course task 2 by professor @yousafharoonkhan, with the theme "Blockchain, Decentralization, Block explorer".

If you have been in the crypto world for a long time, of course the term decentralization is familiar to you. Because almost every time you read articles related to crypto, it must have something to do with decentralization. Although not all cryptocurrencies use a decentralized system, we believe that the relationship between decentralization and cryptocurrency is closely related. That's it, I will explain it based on the homework as follows:

Define decentralization. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of a decentralized system. In what areas of life can a decentralized blockchain be helpful?

decentralization definition

Generally, decentralization is a system where there are no intermediaries in the transaction process. In the case of digital money, the transactions that occur are directly from the sender to the recipient without any intermediaries.
Decentralization is the opposite of a centralized system, where a centralized system is a system in which every transaction process that occurs is controlled by certain parties who have authority such as banks.

The broad definition of decentralization refers to the distribution of power and the absence of a controller. The controllers in this system are the general majority in it. In cryptocurrency itself, the decentralized system is called blockchain.
In a decentralized system there are 3 main categories, namely:

  1. Political Decentralization: no one has the right to control the system
  2. Architectural Decentralization: the absence of failure at a central point.
  3. Logical Decentralization: no hierarchy

advantages and disadvantages of a decentralized system

Advantages
In the world of cryptocurrencies, decentralized systems also have many other advantages including:

  • Relatively cheap transfer fees: cryptocurrency players only need to pay a fraction of the cryptocurrency transfer fees, compared to the large fees charged to centralized systems. For example, on the upbit trading platform, the transaction fee is only 0.2%.
  • Faster confirmation time: When trading cryptocurrencies, the time required for confirmation does not reach a few days, but only a few minutes. In fact, it can be done anywhere and anytime without restrictions.
  • Secure: Decentralized systems have so far proved to be highly tamper-resistant and there hasn't even been a crash that could have caused the system to crash. This makes decentralized systems difficult to hack, modify or manipulate.
  • Transparent: The transparency offered by the decentralized system is certainly very powerful, users can verify and record details for each transaction, it is very transparent on the history of the blockchain.

disadvantages

  • The user cannot cancel the transaction, if there is an error in the transaction, it will be absolute and not cancelled. It is the opposite of a centralized system because it offers protection for error problems in transactions.
  • The identity listed in the decentralized system is kept confidential, although the number of transactions, every activity and address can be seen by everyone. This makes it easy for money laundering crimes to occur.

blockchain benefits for life

  • In general, blockchain systems are used for the cryptocurrency field, that is, if a data has been inputted into the blockchain system, then the data is permanent and cannot be changed so as to minimize data manipulation by people who want to do evil. Then in a decentralized system, the data is also transparent, meaning that each of us can see the data on the blockchain and validate the data ourselves by mutual agreement.

  • A decentralized blockchain system has also begun to be implemented in government, where every government apparatus will record all agreements and transactions to the blockchain system so that it will be impossible for individuals to commit corruption. In addition, every state finance will also be recorded, thus avoiding any form of financial manipulation in a government institution that manages finances.
  • In addition, the decentralized blockchain system can also be applied to voting during the general election of the head of government in a country. This will minimize fraud and falsification of data because any data that has entered the decentralized blockchain system cannot be changed.

conclusion

  • In general, Decentralization is a system where there is no intermediary in the transaction process. In the case of digital money, the transactions that occur are directly from the sender to the recipient without any intermediaries.
  • The advantages of a decentralized system are relatively cheap transfer fees, faster confirmation times, safe and transparent. While the weakness of the decentralized system is that users cannot cancel transactions, if there is an error in the transaction and it is easy for money laundering crimes to occur.
  • Generally the blockchain system is used for the cryptocurrency field. However, over time, there are many plans to implement a blockchain system in the state government sector in the financial sector as well as at the time of voting in general elections in a country.

This is everything I know about Blockchain Decentralization, I'm writing this based on some of the references I've studied.

Hello @robbee,
Thank you for taking interest in the 2nd Task of the Beginners’ class. Your grades are as follows:

CriteriaCalculation
Presentation/Use of Markdowns2/2
Compliance with Topic1.8/2
Quality of Analysis1.8
Clarity of Language2/2
Originality2/2
Total9.6/10

Feedback and Suggestions
  • You write very clearly. Your words are very easy to understand. It shows that you have a good grasp of the topic.

  • Your arrangement is very good. Your work is easy to navigate.

  • On most parts, like the disadvantages, you wrote about cryptocurrencies and not decentralization as a whole. I expected to see points like "Difficulty in coordination",etc. Always read questions properly before answering.

Thanks again as we anticipate your participation in the next class.
