Homework Task week-5 for Professor @sapwood| Steemit Blockchain|

in SteemitCryptoAcademy3 years ago (edited)
Hello Steemians, welcome to another great week in steemit crypto academy. Today's lesson was delivered by professor @sapwood on steemit blockchain. After the lesson, I got the knowledge of how curation works in steemit blockchain. The lesson is very easy to comprehend and I thank professor@sapwood for this amazing lesson.

Q1-What will happen if you vote before “5mins age of a post” & after “6days 12 hrs age of post” in Steemit Blockchain?

In Steemit Blockchain, the first 5mins of a post is considered a Reverse Auction and this is based on the assumption it takes approximately 5mins to read a post in Steemit Blockchain. So voting a post after 5 mins will make you lose some percentage of the curation reward and this lost percentage return to the reward pool. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t vote less than 5mins after a post publication. Some traders vote between 4mins age of high-quality content they know will yield a greater payouts after 7days of the post publication. So despite losing some percentage for voting before 5mins age of a post, they still get the chance of earning a good percentage of the curation reward.
Similarly, voting after 6days 12hrs makes our voting worth starts to deplete linearly. Let's say your voting worth is $1, after 6days 12hours of a post, it might reduce to $0.8 and will get to $0 at 7days of the post publication. This simply means it is useless to vote on a post that is 7days old. Professor @gbenga missed my week4 assignment on his lesson, when I finally got his attention, he told me the post is already 7days old. I never understood that but after taking this lesson, I now know the reason.

Q2-How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain?

In the last question, I explained what happens when you vote on a post before the 5mins of publication. When you vote on a post before 5mins after publication, you lose a certain percent of the curation reward which goes back to the reward pool. Now I'm going to show you how much reward that goes back to the reward pool on a post I voted before 5mins of publication.

  • Go to Steemworld.org/@( username). Don't forget to replace the username with your steemit username.
  • Click on any post you have authored for a drop-down menu.

  • Now scroll down to payout return as shown in the picture below.

Q3-Under what circumstances can a curator earn 100% upvote as a curation reward?

We have discussed that a curator will lose some percentage of his curation award if he votes before 5mins of publication. So this simply means that after 5mins of publication there are no curation reward returning to the pool. On the other hand, a curator can earn 100% of upvote as a curation reward if he is the first person to vote for a post after 5mins of publication. There's also a possibility that a curator can earn 200% upvote as curation reward after being the first person to vote after 5mins of publication depending on the post payouts. The higher the post payout, the higher the percentage of curation reward for the first voter after 5mins of publication.

For example, let do the math for clearer understanding.

Post payout after 7days (Pp) = $16
Post payout before vote (Po) = $0
Post payout after vote (P1) = $1
Using the formula as stated in the lesson,

Pcurator= (1/2) X (√Pp) X (√P1-√Po)
Pcurator= (1/2) X (√16) X (√1-√0) = $2 = 100% upvote

Now, let us replace Pp (post payout) = $20 in the equation keeping Po and P1 constant.
Pcurator = (1/2) X (√20) X (√1-√0) = $2.24 = 112% upvote.

From my observation, the post payout and the voting worth of a curator have a direct effect on the %upvote for the first voter after 5mins of publication.

Q4-Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward?

There are few steps to check this out.

  • enter steemit.org/@( username) in your browser and don't forget to replace the username with your steemit username. In my case @reminiscence01

  • Scroll down to coming reward and click curation reward. Click on refresh to refresh the page.

  • Select a post you voted for a drop-down menu to see the curation reward.
    In this case, I will select the @ebubenna post I voted on. The projected reward is 0.001SP

  • Click on the pie chart icon on the left-hand side to see the time and position of your vote. Click on voted after to arrange the time of vote in order.
    On the publication, my position is 2nd and the voting time is 1hr 00mins 39secs

Q5-What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?

Curation doesn't only entail voting on a post just to claim the reward. Curation involves reading, commenting, upvoting and resteeming a quality content. By so doing, quality contents are discovered by other authors and shared in the community.

In conclusion, curation plays a vital role in Steemit Blockchain by rewarding quality contents that have been found free from plagiarism. Similarly, curators should play their role in reading and reporting any content found harmful to the Steemit Blockchain. Emphasis shouldn't be laid on just the rewards but the quality of the contents.
