Thanks to professor @awesononso for taking his time to explain to us what Genesis Blocks means, here is my homework post sir!

Questions

  • What's Genesis Block of a Blockchain?
  • Write on the Bitcoin Genesis Block and its significance
  • Go to https://steemworld.org and locate the Steem Genesis Block (You must provide screenshots and sign in as proof of completion).

1.
What's Genesis Block of a Blockchain?

The Genesis Block of a blockchain can be simply explained as the first block to exist in a blockchain. It is always the foundation of all blocks in each blockchain we have.

Bitcoin has it's own Genesis Block, Steem has it's Genesis Block and this is the same through out the blockchains.
They all have their specific Genesis Block and this blocks are referred to as Block 0 where as some people refer to their own genesis block as Block 1

2.
Write on the Bitcoin Genesis Block and its significance

Bitcoin genesis block is the first block to be created for Bitcoin blockchain, it is the foundation of all other blocks that exist in Bitcoin today.

This block was invented by a fictitious man who claimed to be a Japanese and who called himself Satoshi Nakamoto. I called him fictitious because we've not been able to identify who's the real man called Satoshi Nakamoto, many people have came out to claim the name.

In 2008, this fictitious man (Satoshi Nakamoto) published a whitepaper for Bitcoin (whitepaper is a persuasive document which is always created to give reader a full understanding of an upcoming project) where he promised to create a decentralized digital currency system. This assumption later came to reality on January 3, 2009
The Genesis Block reward for Bitcoin yield a great return because the reward in the Genesis Block was 50BTCs. Today if you are able to mine Bitcoin the reward you will receive for mining a block will be nothing greater than 6.25BTCs compared to 50BTCs.
In the image below, I will be showing you some information about the Block 0 for Bitcoin;

In the above image we can see the Hash: (000000000019d6689c085ae165831e934ff763ae46a2a6c172b3f1b60a8ce26f), merkle root, the miner details (unknown), timestamp, confirmations and others

IMG-20210707-WA0003.jpg

In the above image, we can see that there's a transaction from the Merkel root to another wallet address (1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa) where it remain unsendable and the founder added a secret message to the transaction.

The ideal time frame for another mining after the block 0 should be 10 minutes but something strange happened during the mining of block 1. It took the timeframe of 6 days instead of 10 minutes

Significance of Bitcoin Genesis Block

Evolution of Decentralization:
One of the key significance of Bitcoin Genesis Block is the evolution of decentralization. Bitcoin is the first decentralized digital currency which was a successful project through the help of the its Genesis Block. The existence of Bitcoin and the great influence it has in the world have bring about creating many other decentralized digital project.
