I'm delighted to have attended the first lecture, task 1 introductory course for beginners. The task 1 course which is titled "Steem and Tron" has been an eye opener. I have gained more than enough. The prof. @sapwood who took us the course dealt with it in a way that can be understood by anybody in respective of the person's knowledge with the Cryptocurrencies. The lecture was not only lengthy, but was also detailed. Thank you, Prof. @sapwood
That being said, In this homework, I am going to share or answer the questions which Prof. asked us based on the understanding of the lecture attended.
He asked three questions which he asked us to answer only one.
So, I will like to answer question 1, which reads like this:

What is PoB? What does curation mean to you in Steem Blockchain? What are the benefits of building SP? How do you explain self-upvote as a good or bad social behavior & why? Explore Coinmarketcap.com to indicate rank, STEEM price, and coinmarketcap of STEEM(screenshot required)? What are the different tokens do you earn by socializing in Steem Blockchain?

So, that is the question 1 which I will be answering.

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

To make this question easy for me to answer and to make it readable for the audience, I have decided to separate the question into six.

  1. What is PoB?
  2. What does curation mean to you in Steem Blockchain?
  3. What are the benefits of building SP?
  4. How do you explain self-upvote as a good or bad social behavior & why?
  5. Explore Coinmarketcap.com to indicate rank, STEEM price, and coinmarketcap of STEEM(screenshot required)?
  6. What are the different tokens do you earn by socializing in Steem Blockchain?

Now, I will be taking the question one after the other and answer it. Now let's move to question one.

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

1. What is PoB?

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

PoB which means Proof of Brain, contains three important things. That is, there are three things that are made up of PoB. They are: reward pool, stake-weighted mechanism (SP), and People's insight. so, in order to understand this word 'PoB', there is need to understand its elements. With that, let me quickly talk on it's elements I mentioned above.

REWARD POOL
Pool is pooling of resources together by people who share the processing power over a network. The reward which these people share equally based on the proportion of their contribution is called 'reward pool.' In other words, the tokens collected by the pool of newly minted block is known as reward pool. The percentage of reward pool which constitute to PoB is just 65%.

STAKE-WEIGHTED MECHANISM (SP)
Another element of PoB is stake-weighted mechanism (SP). SP means steem power. Steem Power is the influence a participant has in the network. The more the SP, the more the power. It is called stake-weighted mechanism because the users have capacity to weigh the reward they distribute or redistribute to the reward pool. I will talk more about SP and it's benefits in question 3

INSIGHT OR WISDOM OF PEOPLE
This is another powerful element of PoB. Simply put wisdom of people as the ability of collective individual on the decentralized social platform network (steem blockchain) to determine between the good and bad contents.

Therefore, PoB is a combination of reward pool which 65% of the total, stake-weighted mechanism (SP) and wisdom of people to determine good and bad contents.

2. What does curation mean to you in Steem Blockchain?

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

A steem blockchain was designed a decentralized social media platform in which participants are rewarded as they share good and quality contents. The process in which their contents go through before it is rewarded can be called 'curation process.' And this process involves series of stage. On this block chain, participants are not just automatically rewarded by sharing contents, it has to go through something called 'curation.'
Now let me try to explain vividly what this process is all about.

When a participant posts in community, (there are many communities on the steem blockchain. One of them is Steemit Crypto Academy which this post is posted to. Participants join or subscribe to the communities based on their preference, what they like and their skill) the curators read the post, digest and dissect it. If the post is good, plagiarized free, and contains everything that good contents should have, such as proper citation, labelling etc., the curator may leave a comment, add their suggestions or advice, ask questions.
However, if the post is found to contains harmful materials, such as having a something like plagiarism. The curator will let the community know the damage such a post may cause to the community and to the entire steem blockchain.
If the the post is helpful, educative and found to be plagiarized free, a curator should Upvote the post by using his influence or power, SP, VP. The weight in which a curator uses to upvote the post depends on him and the originality of the post. The curator can also resteem the post thereby making the post to be visible by their followers.

The person who upvote a content can decide to use any weight for the post. When the post has been curated, it is called 'curated content.' Both the curator and the the person who wrote the content, the author are rewarded. The reward of the curator is known as 'curator reward.' While that of the author is called 'author reward'

3. What are the benefits of building SP?

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

SP means steem power. It is a stake-weighted mechanism which contribute to the PoB. When a post is curated, the post comes with a reward. For the author, the reward are in form of STEEM and SP or SBD and SP. Sometimes, the reward comes in form of SP only when the author set it to be rewarded with 100% SP and not 50/50. But for the curator, the reward comes only inform of SP.

Like I said above, steem power, SP is an influence you have on the steem blockchain. It is like the power vested on individual to carry out certain tasks. That's why one cannot perform a task without steem power.

There are many benefits of holding and building steem power. Some of the benefits are discussed below

You will have maximum capacity to perform as many tasks as possible when you hold and build steem power.
When I first joined the platform, I was very curious to perform as much tasks as possible per day. As I was commenting on people post, I was resteem their posts. But it came to a point when the system told me that I have no capacity. That is I didn't have resource credit.
See the screenshot below to see what I'm talking about.

IMG-20210711-WA0008.jpg
So it is very important to keep steem power.

The more the SP, the more the influence.
Another benefits of building SP is that, you have influence. As you increase in SP and you keep it, you will be attracted to followers. Also, another importance is that the distribution of the rewards pool favors those who have higher SP

It helps building the community.
When people build their steem power, they are building the communities. There is a saying that "if you want to build a nation, build it's people." Honestly that's true. And if a community will be built, the members of that community must build their steem power which is one of the major things that strengthen the community.

Rewards are earned by building steem power.
You earn different rewards by building steem power. When you vote on an author content, it is not only author that's rewarded. You are rewarded as a curator. And if you don't have enough SP, if you vote, you will not be rewarded.
Also, the integration of TRX in steem blockchain is added advantage. And for every 1SP you earn, you will be given 1TRX. So the more your SP, the more TRX you earn.

4. How do you explain self-upvote as a good or bad social behavior & why?

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

Self-upvote means curating your content by yourself. That is, when an author curates the post he made by himself, it is called self-upvote.
Self-upvote is a bad social behavior on Steem blockchain. Self-upvote, to me is a way of judging what you wrote by yourself. You don't want people to give suggestions, or make criticism on it.

On Steem blockchain, there is what is called "isolated judgement." Isolated judgement doesn't not earn more reward because it is at the sub linear zone. What the steem blockchain encourages is convergent linear reward. Convergent linear reward is a reward algorithm on Steem blockchain which helps the curators to reach agreement on good content. They upvote the content and earn good reward.

Poor content and self-upvoted content will therefore remain at the lower level. This is why self-upvote is not encouraged on Steem blockchain.

5. Explore Coinmarketcap.com to indicate rank, STEEM price, and coinmarketcap of STEEM(screenshot required)?

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

Below are the steps to explore the https://coinmarketcap.com.
Firstly, I open the website using Google chrome browser.

IMG-20210711-WA0015.jpg
The website opens showing different Cryptocurrencies with Bitcoin ranked first.

Because, I didn't know the rank which steem is, I used the search button to search for steem.

IMG-20210711-WA0019.jpg

Now, the search button brought steem and steem dollars
IMG-20210711-WA0018.jpg

I clicked on the steem since I am interested in looking for some features on steem.
After clicking on the steem, it loaded a page where the features I am interested in were seen.

IMG-20210711-WA0016.jpg

Currently, steem is ranked 167

IMG-20210711-WA0017.jpg

As at the time of writing this, the steem price is $0.4279

IMG-20210711-WA0020.jpg

Market cap of steem currently is 166, 537, 736.83

6. What are the different tokens do you earn by socializing in Steem Blockchain?

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

The different types of token that can be earned on Steem blockchain are:

  1. Steem
  2. Steem dollar, SBD
  3. Tron, TRX
  4. Steem power

An author, someone who writes a post can be rewarded with either steem and SP or SBD and SP. But sometimes he is rewarded in SP only if he makes a setting on the post to be "power up 100%"
A curator receives his reward only in SP.

The snapshot below shows an example of a post of an author with the rewards he earns.

IMG-20210711-WA0026.jpg

As it can be seen from the snapshot above, the reward is SBD, SP and TRX

TRX is one of the token earned together with steem power. When you earn 1SP, you will be given 1TRX. SBD can be converted to steem in the steem wallet section. And steem can also be be powered up to have more steem power.

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

Conclusion

IMG-20210705-WA0034.jpg

Steem blockchain is a decentralized social media platform where people post contents and get rewarded based on the quality and originality of the post.
Both the author and the curator are rewarded. Curators are the persons who curate or upvote contents. While authors are those who write the content.

The contents created by the authors are curated by the curator using Proof of Brain, PoB. Proof of Brain are reward pool (65% of the total), stake-weighted mechanism (SP), and the wisdom of people to determine the good and bad contents.
