Crypto Academy Week 5 Homework Post for [@sapwood]

Hi everyone and welcome to my homework post for week 5. First of all, I would like to thank Professor @sapwood for an amazing lecture. I have been using steemit platform since December, 2017, but truly speaking, I have never been aware of the things told in this lecture.

Home Task-1.

There is a certain time period for giving vote to any post. Since it is a decentralized social media platform, people upvote good content and can downvote a bad content. Time period has too much importance for voting purpose. First 5 minutes of the post and time after 6 days and 12 hours, this time period is very crucial and a vote loses its part of curation. When any person gives upvote to any content, after 7 days when the payment is made, voters are given curation reward.

When a user votes a content in first 5 mints of the post, he will loose some percentage of curation and similarly when a vote is given on the post after 6 days and 12 hours, curation looses some percentage. Voting period after 5 minutes to 6 days and 12 hours, receives 100% curation reward.

In first five minutes, every minute has 20% discount means a vote given in 1st minute will receive 20% curation, in 2nd minute it will increase to 40% and so on. At 5 minutes 100% curation starts. Similarly, a vote given after 6 days and 12 hours starts loosing curation and at 7 days, it equals to zero.

I was unaware of this fact, but I have given votes after 5 minutes age of posts. That is why, 100% weight has been given to all my votes.

Home Task-2.

When a user votes on a post within first 5 minutes after its publishing, or after 6 days and 12 hours. Then the curation percentage lost will be returned to reward pool. I will illustrate this by pictures given below.

In the above picture, I have pointed out to click on the Post link and below will be the information about the post. Then I have pointed out Payout Returned by red rectangle. Here we can check how much reward has been returned to the reward pool.

Homework Task 3.

Now we will discuss the case in which a curator earns more than 100% value of upvote as curation reward. When the value of post is 0 and a curator upvotes after 5 minutes age of the post, and this vote is the first vote of the post. In this case curation reward can be more than 100% value of upvote. First 1$ voter(s) get more than 100% curation reward.

As I have learned from the lecture, If total payout of post is 16$ then first 1$ voter(s) get 200% curation reward. Similarly, if a post payout is 64$, then the first 1$ voter(s) will get 4$ as curation reward and that will be 400% of vote value.

Home Task-4.

Let me show you a picture that will indicate the time and position of voting alongwith curation reward. Below is the screenshot.

This picture illustrate the time and weight of the vote and also the Reward SP.

Home Task-5.

Role of Curation in better content discovery.

Curation attracts curators to discover better content. When a curator goes through a post and he finds it helpful for the community, he will certainly upvote the content. Before upvoting, curator also considers some other things. Curator must check the quality of the content. Then he should check plagiarized/spam content. If it is so, and harmful to the community, it should be down-voted by the curator. Curator also checks the source of the content whether it is trustworthy or not.

Keeping in view all these things, a curator will upvote the content. Hence a better quality content will be curated. After being curated, the post goes in Trending spot and other users can also access the post. In this way, curation is very important in discovery of better content.

Thanks in anticipation.
