INTRODUCTION

Hello Steemians,
I'm so excited today, that SteemitCryptoAcademy is back to educate us more about cryptocurrencies with addition of new professors. After reading and studying professor @alphafx season 2 lesson on the topic; "Blockchain and Platforms", I have gained a better understanding on several Blockchain and that is why I am here to discussed about the comparison between Ripple and Ethereum Blockchain base on the topic that was given by my noble professor @alphafx below;

Give a detailed comparison between two blockchain platforms of your choice.

What is a Blockchain Platforms?

Blockchain Platforms is a platform that supports the development and improvement of applications. The blockchain platforms can be Permissionless or Permissioned. And example of a blockchain platforms are Ripple, Ethereum, Tron and EOS. These are platform that have suçcessfully built blockchain network that allow individual to develop applications on the network. Although this homework is base on the comparison of two blockchain platforms, of which I'm going to discussed about Ripple and Ethereum.

Ripple

Ripple is a top blockchain network that was created in 2012. Ripple network is aimed to offers real-time power payments to different customers worldwide through the used of digital asset exchange. Ripple global payments that is trader is known as XRP which is the digital asset, that is among the top Cryptocurrencies that is 1,000 times cheaper and faster than Bitcoin and Ethereum.

XRP that is built on advanced blockchain technology, is more faster and scalable compared to other blockchains. Probabilistic voting is what Ripple is using to reach the consensus of different nodes.

Good Things About Ripple

One good thing about Ripple is that it allow real-time global payments that can be accessible worldwide without the use of exchange rate rates. In a nutshell, Ripple is aims to modernize the used of global payments system through the use of digital asset.

Now let's Look at the next Blockchain Platform Ethereum

Ethereum

Ethereum is an open-source blockchain that was discovered in 2013, as a platform for decentralized applications. Ethereum is best known for running of smart contracts with the addition of various functionalities on a custom built blockchain. Vitalk Buterin is the programmer that proposed the Ethereum blockchain. Ethereum allow one to write a code that can controls digital value, which can be accessible worldwide. The Ethereum Machine (EVM) offer a run-time environment that support the used of smart contracts in Ethereum. All the node within the Ethereum network is run by an EVM process. The Ethereum cryptocurrency is known as Ether that is used to support the Ethereum ecosystem. In the Ethereum network if a developer builds and application the developer has to pay a charge in form of Ethers.

Good Things About Ethereum

The aims of Ethereum is to encourage the use of blockchain technology through the use of smart contracts. It support smart contracts and decentralized applications to be built and run without any problem, fraud or third party issues. Ethereum has brought so many DApps like Uniswap and the rest of them with the help of it smart contracts.

The Key Comparison Between Ripple Vs. Ethereum

Now, that we have known the meaning of these two blockchain platforms, let's look at the key comparison between them.

Consensus Mechanism
Consensus is the process by which transaction is being finalized to the blockchain. Before consensus is process a certain part of the node has to agree that everything is in the blockchain is valid. Now that we have known what the word Consensus mean, let quickly look at the comparison of the two blockchain platforms.

Ripple make uses of a mechanism known as Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA), which works differently compared to Proof-of-Work, that Ethereum uses as a consensus mechanism.
Ripple also make uses of transaction validatiors, which allow banks to make use of the Ripple technology. Ripple claimed to have a consensus Algorithm that is very fast in processing transactions of 1,500 per second. Currently Ripple has about 75 clients and more than 100 customers in different stages of commercial activities which are the (xRapid) minimizing liquidity costs, (xVia) multiple network and (xCurrent) border payments. So many big companies like American Express, SBI Holdings, MoneyGram International, Santander, Deloitte etc are planning to integrate Ripple Blockchain into their payment system, because of how fast and secure the Ripple network is.

Ethereum works on the mechanism of Proof-of-Work, which is just like puzzle. The problem of Ethereum is the use of Consensus mechanism which is one of the major problem of processing of a large transactions, in the Ethereum network. The network is only capable of processing 15 transactions per second. Although Ethereum Enterprise Alliance (EEA) is a non profit making enterprise with more than 259 members. The members of the Ethereum Enterprise Alliance are Intel, J.P. Morgan Chase and Microsoft are the major ones supporting the use of the Ethereum blockchain platforms.

Now that we have understand the Consensus Mechanism of the two blockchain platforms let us look at them in a tabuler form below;

Key ComparisonRippleEthereum

Ledger ClassPermissionedPermissionless
Smart Contract FunctionalityNoYes
Performance SpeedTransactions is process and verified in 4 seconds whenever XRP coins is send to another UsersIt takes 15 seconds for transactions to be process which is 4 times slower when compare to Ripple

Conclusion

I can easily say, that Ripple and Ethereum are trying so hard in the blockchain platforms to make things easier and to stop fraud in our society, and I strongly believe that in the the nearest future the both Cryptocurrencies will achieve they aim in the blockchain platforms. As we can see there is already a brighter future in Ripple from the court cases so far, which show that more suçcessful stories are on the way coming.

Thank You So much for your time here friends.....
