Steemit Crypto Academy Contest / S7W6 - Careful, Has your Steemit account been hacked?

engagement.png

The topic in Season 7 week 6 became a magnet for me to be part of the contestants, because many cases nowadays are related to account hacking. Account hacking is closely related to activities carried out outside his knowledge. The internet has many positive impacts on ease of access and information, but a low understanding of it will actually cause huge losses beyond expectations.

Sesuai dengan petunjuk yang dipublikasikan, saya akan menguraikan 4 poin dari engagement ini:

Have you had your Steemit account hacked? What do you think about dubious links offering rewards? Give us your opinion.

Personally, when I joined this platform since 2016, I have never experienced a case like this, because I did not leave an important track record on every browser I use, except for Private post key, I did this based on previous experience in 2018 when one my friend's account was hacked and almost $800 was transferred out (asset prices were SBD and Steem at that time).

Based on the results of communication with the account owner, the account was hacked because the user automatically saves the Private Active Key in the browser used.

The next case, namely the Steem For Betterlife Community Curation account, has also experienced the same thing, the difference is that hackers are only able to copy key posts from the community curation account stored in the browser used by the community admin and moderator, the disadvantage is that hackers (fongki) can only use it to set their account as a community moderator and curate some posts with 100% percentage.

Of the two cases above, the account was hacked due to user activity using internet services, the hacker will insert a link that can copy all activity in the browser used, both private and public. Links can be inserted in the form of gift offers, or other benefits, but websites that provide free software are also vulnerable to hacker links.

Regarding the prize offer link, I advise users to be more careful and use rationally before clicking on the link, because everything will not be obtained easily, but must be through dedication and integrity, pirated software users must also be careful when using it because it has a high risk of important data you have.

What are your recommendations to prevent your account from being stolen or hacked? Give us your opinion.

As I mentioned above, the most important things to prevent accounts from being hacked or stolen are:

  1. Does not save history in the browser
It should be noted that deleting every last visited history is the most important part to keep data safe, hackers will not be able to record and copy any personal data even if you make a mistake.

  2. Use Browser with incognito mode
Using this mode will eliminate traces of the user, but care should be taken not to save any passwords.

  3. Do not use pirated software
The use of software that has been activated by a third party also has a very high risk of account theft, let alone downloading it on certain websites where the security is not guaranteed.

  4. Not using Free Public Networks

  5. Use a device that protects suspicious websites or links, for example a Macbook

  6. Save tokens in the form of Power Up or saving
Saving as a strategic step to hinder transfer attempts from thieves, when hackers want to withdraw savings it will take 3 days.

Why do some accounts get hacked? What would you say to people whose accounts are hacked?

Cases of asset theft have been rife and in the last few months my brother @slempase has had bad luck, he is not active on the platform due to his busy schedule but his assets are stolen and his password is changed by hackers, but by having a Master key he can access his account again with the help of the Steemit Team.

I can't say much because judging from his knowledge of information technology, he is a master of Informatics Engineering at the Bandung Institute of Technology and often makes visits to Japan, but he realizes that hackers have taken advantage of the mistakes he made.

If you find out that your account has been hacked, what are the steps you should take immediately to prevent your tokens from being stolen?

If my account gets hacked, the first step I take is to ensure that the hacker doesn't change my password so I will change the passworld immediately. But if it has been changed, I will perform stolen account recovery using the Master Key from the PDF copy I saved.

Usually hackers who have access to transfers because they have a copy of the Private Active Key will immediately transfer the assets in the account wallet, but the most important thing to do is change the password so that the hacker doesn't come back and do the same thing.

Thus my brief description of Engagement this time, hopefully it can be a reference for myself and other newcomers.

Let me start by appreciating you for taking time out to guide and advise us on the best ways to secure our Steemit accounts.

Steemit is a great platform for content creators and bloggers. Nevertheless, with such a wonderful and fast growing platform, comes hackers and phishers.

As Steemit users, we ought to be aware of the various hacks and phishing links that can be found on the platform.

We should be able to detect and avoid links offering benefits that are too good to be true, as this could help save us from hacks.

Phishy attacks typically involves sending an email with a link that takes the user to a malicious website that looks like a legitimate Steemit page.

On this page, the user is asked to enter their username and password, which then gives the hacker access to the user's account.

I really love the valuable guide and remarkable points shared on this article my boss, I would equally appreciate of you engage in mine

Greetings @irawandedy,

I hope you are doing well. You have shared great post on Steem account hack.

You have mentioned that your account is secure from start but your friend faced loss of $800 because he saved his logins in the browser. Also the Steem for Betterlife community curation account got hacked because the admin also saved the keys in the browser.

Here I will add that this is the worst thing one can do to his account is saving his keys in the browser. It is the easiest way for hackers to steal keys. I never save keys in the browser instead I save them on paper at home.

You have shared with our recommendations to prevent our account from hacking and funds stealing. I agree and it is the best thing one can do on Steemit to convert his Steem to SP because it can't be converted back to Steem easily and requires 1 month.

You have mentioned that your brother @slempase also faced hacking issue on Steemit. His account got hacked but now due to Master Password he got his account back. I suggest to keep the Master Password not in the PC or Laptop but in a notebook at home.

You have also mentioned what will you do to recover your account if got hacked. The Master Key is the only way to recover our account so yes we should use it and store it securely.

Overall, you have shared good well research content with us. I wish you best of luck for the contest. Also check my entry and share your view :)

Much impressed with your details and very interesting thing is that you have explained everything to the point which is needed all the time and it makes ease of understading and reading the posts.

Moreover I want to say that whether we save our funds in the form of power once our account hacked and passwords changed then we cannot do anything.
