Why is the price of STEEM running up?

The overall crypto market has been picking up a lot of steam recently (pun intended). Is STEEM just following along or is there something bigger afoot.

The price of STEEM is up 50% over the last week and over 20% in the last 12 hours alone.

Does anyone have any ideas? Can we keep this going and make all our hard work keep paying off?
