Crypto Academy Week 10 Homework Post for [@pelon53] - Tokens Part 1

I'm back writing today and I'm happy to see this community again. The day I will make a post about "TOKENS", this is the homework theme given by professor @pelon53. There are three main tasks to complete in this homework and let's finish them.

What is Token?

In the virtual world we often hear this word, but some people may think of it as the same as cryptocurrency. Tokens and cryptocurrencies are two different coins. Token is a transaction "unit" that is used to represent a certain value and is usually issued by a company using blockchain network technology.

Unlike cryptocurrencies, Tokens only run on pre-existing blockchain networks such as Ethereum's blockchain network and do not develop their own blockchain, and it should be noted that Tokens cannot be mined like Bitcoin. In addition, usually at the beginning of its creation, Tokens always do fundraising called an ICO (Initial Coin Offering) or IEO (Initial Exchange Offering).

In general, there are three types of tokens to distinguish:

1. Security Token
2. Utility Token
3. Equity Token

To discuss the three types of tokens, I will explain them below.

Security Token

Security Token is a token that represents the value of an investment contract for the ownership of the assets of a project related to financial securities and can be said to be traditional shares that run on the blockchain network because the mechanism is similar to traditional shares. Token holders have the right to envolved on every company decision and benefit from the profit sharing process according to the number of tokens held. So it can be said that the main purpose of buying a Security Token is as an investment asset. As the name implies, this token also has high security to guarantee every investor.

At the beginning of its creation, Security Tokens will distribute their Tokens through an STO (Security Token Offering) with the aim of raising funds. STO can be said to be a form of combination between an ICO and an IPO (Initial Public Offering) because investors will also get real rights such as investing in stocks in a company. Interested investors will invest here.

Security Token allows investors to buy shares of a company easily, practically, quickly and does not require a lot of files. Companies that want to sell shares can also more easily sell them on a crypto exchange and the process of buying and selling shares can also be done instantly on a crypto exchange.

One example of a Security Token is Polymath (POLY), this is a security token that runs on the ST-20 network that is verified on the Ethereum blockchain network with good regulations. This platform aims to help developers launch their STOs and promote them, this is the platform that Trever K and Chris H founded in 2017.

Utility Token

Utility Token is a token that is used to access a platform, service, or product and this token runs on the blockchain network. The token will provide special access to a certain service or product only for each Token holder. It can be said that a Utility Token is like a coupon of value on a blockchain network.

At the beginning of its creation, Utility Tokens will distribute their Tokens through an ICO (Initial Coin Offering) with the aim of raising funds. Interested investors will invest here because Tokens are offered at low prices. However, Utility Tokens are not investment assets like Security Tokens because there is no special authority that promises profit sharing here, so you need to make your own considerations to invest here.

One example of a Utility Token is Basic Attention Token (BAT), this is a Utility Token which was launched in 2017 and runs on the Ethereum blockchain network as an ERC-20 Token. BAT is a Utility Token launched to Brave browser users for advertising purposes which can be exchanged between publishers, advertisers and the people involved in it. By creating a new exchange unit for all parties involved in advertising, BAT became the solution to today's advertising problems.

BAT is able to increase the effectiveness of advertising through the blockchain system. You can use BAT to block ads, change the type of ad or provide rewards for an ad. By eliminating middlemen in the advertising process, BAT can reward publishers for allowing ads on their pages and reward users who pay attention to an advertisement.

Equity Token

Equity Token is a token that is still classified as a type of security token which is used to represent the ownership of an asset on the blockchain network. Because it is classified as a Security Token, Equity Token also has high security to guarantee every investor. Almost the same as traditional stocks, Equity Token can provide returns for investors based on the success of the asset so that the value of each Equity Token is very dependent on the success of the asset.

In accordance with the provisions, investors who buy this Token will have a percentage of ownership according to the number of Tokens held. To raise funds in advance and find a number of investors, Equity Token will distribute their Tokens through an ETO (Equity Token Offering).

One example of an Equity Token is BnkToTheFuture (BFT), this is an Equity Token that runs on the Ethereum blockchain network as an ERC-20 Token. This token value will always be pegged to the company's assets so that the value will increase as the company grows. BnkToTheFuture is an investment platform that was founded in 2018 and offers investment opportunities through ownership of the BFT Token as a membership Token. BFT tokens can provide incentives for the community and are able to improve relations with investors.
