Centralized Social media

A centralized Social media is a social media that offers it's users a platform to interact with people with specific rules. In a centralized Social media, the activities performed on it are being set out and regulated by the board of directors thereby limiting the freedom of it's users . A centralized Social media can be manipulated by an existing government or other influencial person. It is majorly characterized by it's ownership Structure and where it's data is stored.
Examples of centralized Social media include;

Decentralized social media

A Decentralized social media is a kind of social media that stores it's users data on the blockchain system making it impossible to hack. A Decentralized social media is characterized by liberty of post by it's users on the platform. That is , it permits the users liberty to create what ever content they wish to create whether positive or negative and also rewards it's users for their quality content on the platform.
Examples of decentralized social media include;
• Lit
• Solid
• Steemit
• Mastodon

Difference between centralized social media and decentralized social media Explained

• Security of User Account:
In Centralized social media, their network is easily prone to hacking and high jacking. When a social media engages a centralized storage, for keeping data of it's users, and if there be a breach in their system, a great deal of user data or information could be exposed thereby compromising the security of user accounts.
In a decentralized social media, there is no tendency of breach of user account since all user data are stored on the blockchain network.

• Reward User Content:
Some decentralized social media today reward it's users for the creation of their quality content. This encourages the user and also makes the user know that he is an essential part of the system.
In centralized social media, the reverse is the case as people do not receive any reward on the contents which they create but rather are exploited even more.

• Freedom of Expression:
In a decentralized social media, the users are free to make their thoughts, opinions, and views to be heard irrespective of it's positive or negative value. Their is no restriction to the type of contents which a user can create.
In Centralized Social media, the executive board determines what kind of content will be created on their platform and punish trespassers by blocking or shutting down their account.

Recovery of User Keys/ Password:
In a Decentralized social media, the recovery of a lost user account is not possible. This can be interpreted to be that a lost key or password is equal to a lost user account.
In Centralized Social media, their is room for recovery of lost, hacked, forgotten or misplaced user keys or password because it is stored on a centralized database that is accessible by the executive board.

• Ownership Structure:
In a Decentralized social media, it is not owned by anybody. Rather, its management and organisation is done within the users by agreement.
In Centralized Social media, it's ownership and management rests on the shoulders of one person or an executive board. This person controls what you can see, what you can create, and develops the dos and don'ts of their platform. They also have access to user data and can use it at their own will and description without the users consent.

Which is the future of Social media

A social media user is entitled to know and have control over how his content, data and other information is being managed.

Sincerely, anyone would despise the breach of privacy being done by the centralized social media. Some users have even quit and some have deleted their user account on the centralized social media because of this same problem of privacy violation. But there is a way out of that.

By navigating toward the decentralized social media, users can now get back a lot of the freedom and trust which were violated when they were using centralized social media. With decentralized social media in vogue, users don not need to give up their privacy of their data just so that they can communicate with their family, collegues and business associates. Irrespective of the fact that some of the decentralized Social media are still upcoming and some have not received public attention yet, they have got good and promising potentials for it's users.

How Steemit Decentralized social media is better than Twitter and Facebook

Steemit can be described as a decentralized social media that rewards it's users with Cryptocurrency called Steem for creating quality contents which has great value to fellow users. The said reward STEEM is a crypto and so could easily be exchanged on any Cryptocurrency Exchange platform like Luno and Binance. Steemit operates with the idea of not leaving out it's users in the reward that comes from their quality content.
On Twitter and Facebook, the content creators do not receive any reward for thier post what so ever. The users are even manipulated and their user data sold and used without their consent. The owners of the Facebook and Twitter platform determine and regulate what users can post, and see. This completely limits the users as there is no freedom of expression and constant breach of user privacy.
In Summary, steemit is a better social media than Facebook and Twitter because the platform gives it's users room to say what is on their mind without fear of being haunted as user data is kept anonymous.
Also, the content reward makes a great difference. I may ask my friend, 'why waste your time on Facebook all day long when you could get rewarded for the same activities on steemit'.

How do steemit social media change the lives of millions of it's users

Of a truth, the steemit decentralized social media has helped so many people all around the world. Specifically in my province, during the covid19 pandemic in 2020, the government declared a stop work and sit at home. As a result there was a great hike in unemployment and also in prices of different commodities. This in turn brought about great increase in social vice especially robbery with or without arms. Even some people dived into online fraudulent activities. But when we got a wave o steemit in my province, there was a drastic decrease in the social vice going on then till date. People in my area preferred to create their own quality post and earn decently rather than disturb the neighborhood. As a result of this, we had less to worry about in terms of security in my province.

Also, I have observed that the steemit social media has uplifted the economic status of a lot of people in my area. In turn, steemit has also reduced the work load on the Province government in poverty alliviation.

How can one make money with Steemit decentralized social media

The First approach to this question is logging in to signup.steemit
Register an account for free following the prompts on the page that comes up.
Note: Remember to download your keys and most importantly always keep them safe and away from prying eyes.

After doing the above, you login using your steemit username and posting keys on steemit.com

Next you navigate to profile, and then communities.
It will show to explore communities .
Here you will see many communities. Subscribe to them, understand what the community is talking about and start making your post to earn rewards after seven days of content creation.
Here are some communities you shouldn't miss out on as a newbie.

NEWCOMERS COMMUNITY: in this community, you are expected to complete achievement different tasks and also earn from the platform simultaneously. As the name implies, it is a community for new Conners on steemit. In this community, you will firstyintroduce yourself to the community and steemit at large and then you go on with other achievement posts which will aid you in understanding how the steemit platform works.

• STEEMITCRYPTOACADEMY: In this community, you engage the classes of different proffersors to gain knowledge of the crypto world and also complete homework post to gain more knowledge and experience of the crypto world. While doing this, you are being compensated for your quality homework post.

How to create a Community on the steemit social media( A practical guide)

• After logging in to your account, navigate to profile ,and then communities. You will see join and create. click on any Community and navigate to explore communities

• Click on create community.

• Input the community name and about the community.

• As you can see, I want to make a Community for Big Brother Tv Show
I also wrote the description of the community

• Next is to save community keys and user id.
• Next step is where I pay 3 steems to complete community creation process.

• Now the community has kicked off and is ready to be promoted.

In summary

In the course of completing this homework post, I have learnt so much about centralized Social media and decentralized social media. I have also been able to see the flaws of Centralized Social media and why the world should gradually shift towards decentralized social media. I am so happy to have this class and completed this homework because through this homework, I have been able to create my own steemit community.
