This is my submission for homework task set by @sapwood.
(1) What will happen if you vote before "5 mins age of a post" & after "6 days 12 hrs age of post" in Steem Blockchain? (Include your own experiences/Examples)
Voting on posts before five minutes decreases curation reward, that is, the reward that you were anticipated to get after post pay out. The reward that is deducted from your pool won't go to author but will stay in steemit . Below I'll tabulate distribution of rewards among author and steemit reward pool based on voting at various intervals of time.

Voting on post beyond 6 days and 12 hours causes linear decline in vote worth despite full voting weight. The percentage decline in the voting weight beyond 6 days and 12 hours is tabulated below

D = Day and h= hour
To further simplify it, I can put it like this: if you have voting value of $1 and you voted on any post at 6 days and 12 hours , $1 reward will be added to that post. Now , if you vote on the post when the post is 6 days and 15 hours old with 100% voting strength, the post will only receive 0.75$ credit. Smilarly if you vote after 7 days with 100% voting strength, post will not receive anything as you are voting outside voting window period.
(2) How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain? Include screenshots (Hint- Steemworld.org)
Return of rewarrds to steemit pool occurs when someone votes on post before starting off voting Window Period. Return occurs in different percentages, depending upon time interval at which vote is castled. (See table above). To check how much reward of a post has returned to reward pool;
Go to steemworld. org .
Log into your account with username and private key .
Go to dashboard of your steemworld.
Look for your posts as shown below. A list ot posts that are active will appear.
- Click on any post you wish to check from the list and details will appear.
- in the post that i selected only 0.10% of the payout that amounts to 0.020$ wlll be returned to steemit reward pool.
(3) Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation rewards?
Curator can earn more than 100% curation reward when curator tries to vote as early as possible after 5 minutes of post age on a good quality post which is anticipated to get good quantity of rewards after you vote and thereby as payout.
Above image (table) was posted by @sapwood in this week's lesson. It showe that, first voter (s) will get 50% , 100% , 200% , 400%, 800% of their upvote value as curation reward on posts with payout reward of 1$, 4$, 16$, 64$, 256$.
(4) Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward? (Include relevant Screenshots) (Hint- Steemworld.org)
Go to steemworld. org and after logging in, check curation rewards. Here i have selected highlighted post below.
On post that i have selected, i have voted after 1h 30min 51s with vote strength of 100% that weighted 0.09$.
I have voted at number second and i am expecting curation reward of 0.249$ which is 2.76 times ( more than 250%) my upvote value on this post.
(5) What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?
Curation plays a very important role in content discovery. It is because when you vote upon a quality content ( although curation in practical is not voting only) that content goes in trending list of that category/community and is therefore available for more and more users when search for content of that category is made.
Fo4 example, i am interested in looking for posts on health and therefore, i looked for #health, the post that i saw there at the top was
Although i don't know the author of the post, still his post caught my attention because it has came out in top of trending list because of curation by community.
Secondly, keeping in mind the broader and practical perspective of curation as put out by @sapwood, resteeming a post is also part of curation. Resteeming a post help in reaching more and more number of users because your followers will be able to see your resteemed post. For example, i tried to look for, what my friends are doing. So i selected posts from my friends and i saw
Although alegriatube12 is not my friend (following) but still i was able to see the post because it was resteemed by one of my friend ( following).
So it is clear that curation is a potential tool for quality content discovery.
