On this occasion, I will complete the homework given by professor @pelon53 which is discussing Hashgraph.


Describe in detail the Gossip protocol, which is used in Hashgraph

Gossip is a behavior that we often see and hear in our daily lives, many rumors/events are circulating in the wider community because people start spreading it by word of mouth, this causes people who previously did not know about the incident to know even though he did not meet directly with the person who experienced the incident. For example, my friend got a low score on a test at school, and then she told me about it, after that I told my friend's problem with my other friends, and this continued until everyone in my class knew about it. Because of the gossip activity that I did with my friend earlier, everyone in my class knew the value of the friend who had told me earlier.

The gossip mechanism that I do with my friends is what is used in Hashgraph Technology, this protocol is called Gossip About Gossip.

This gossip protocol will work by spreading information under the network node. A node will send data to other nodes randomly, the information/data sent is all data related to node transactions whose purpose is to verify transactions and reach consensus.

For example, node 1 performs a transaction and after that, it sends the transaction data it did to node 2, the things that will be explained are other nodes that it has interacted with, time, amount, etc. After that node 2 will send the data to node 4, and node 4 sends the data to node 5, and this continues until the data has been received by many other nodes and returns to node 1 after the transaction made by node 1 has reached consensus.

Explain Byzantine Fault Tolerance in Hashgraph

In an information delivery process carried out by each node, most of the time it does not run smoothly, this is very reasonable because so many nodes are in the same network and must be given information on every transaction that occurs. Therefore, there is a tolerance created by Hashgraph Technology to make it easier for every transaction that occurs that will be able to reach a consensus. This tolerance is named Byzantine Fault Tolerant.

Byzantine Fault Tolerant provides a tolerance for each submission of information where if 2/3 of the total nodes have received information from the transaction and the information is valid, then the information has reached consensus. However, if 1/3 of the information received is invalid/corrupt information, then the information will not reach a consensus.

Hashgraph Vs Blockchain

Hashgraph and Blockchain are technologies that are highly developed today, these two technologies are in great demand by many people because of the sophistication they offer. But both have differences, including:

  1. Transaction Fee
    Every time they make a transaction, both of them provide a transaction load for their users, but the transaction fees charged are different, the transaction fee from Hashgraph is $0.0001, then blockchain which tends to be more expensive, which ranges from $15 to $26.

  2. Scalability
    Hashgraph has a more scalable technology than blockchain, this is because transactions on the hashgraph network are not delayed. Whereas transactions on blockchain depend on cryptocurrency mining work this can cause delays in any transactions that take place.

  3. Speed
    In the Blockchain system, the speed of internal transactions that can be solved on this technology is about 5 to 10 minutes, while in Hashgraph the transaction process can be processed in a faster timeframe, namely in 3 to 5 seconds.

  4. Justice
    Hashgraph has a system where it can make all transactions that occur on its system run fairly because every information sent will be sent randomly and can only reach consensus if it reaches 2/3 valid information. Whereas on blockchain this does not exist, because most transactions depend on the cryptocurrency mining process, which means all transactions will depend on the miners.

  5. Security
    The Hashgraph protocol is known for its high crypto asset security. All information in the Hashgraph will be sent to all nodes that will be in the network, this makes Hashgraph very difficult to hack.

Adopt Hashgraph technology for Voting in My Country

In Indonesia, the voting process is still carried out in a conventional way which is by using paper. With technology such as Hashgraph, it will be very suitable to be applied in the voting system in Indonesia, This is because Hashgraph is a system that has high fairness and speed in calculating voting results. valid in a very short time. Any voting results that have been successfully carried out will not be able to be changed by anyone so that the voting results will be very valid and their authenticity is maintained.
