Crypto Academy / Season 4 / Week 1 - Homework Post for [@yohan2on] Blockchain Technology and the Internet of Things (IoT)

Once again we are in a new season of the cryptoacademy, in a more advanced stage where I am sure that thousands of students have learned a lot about the different topics that abound in the cryptoactive ecosystem, said issues have helped us to obtain improvements in our finances.

Each professor at the academy has been in charge of teaching us many important topics that will help us to operate successfully in this market. I thank all the teachers for all their tasks taught in recent seasons, where they have been of great help to us so that we can function successfully in the crypto space.

Today I have joined the incredible class taught by professor @yohan2on, where he talks about a very peculiar and important topic, he talks about blockchain technology and the internet of things, and how they have shocked the world.

Each of these technologies have something to offer us, despite the fact that both are in full development, however, we have been able to benefit enormously from both, since both have a lot to contribute to the ecosystem. In this assignment I will talk a little about the future of the Internet of Things and about its future through blockchain technology.

1) Explain why the future Internet of Things depends on Blockchain.

Before we start, I want to talk a little about what the internet of things is, so that we can get into context and then be able to explain why blockchain is the best solution to this.

• IOT:

We know that today almost all the activities we do on a daily basis depend on the internet, such as working through our phones, our computers and a host of activities that require it. As the world is always in constant change and evolution, this is where "The internet of things" arises, it is simply a matter of joining the internet connection to intercommunicate with other devices, thus facilitating thousands of activities to human beings.

For example, through the IOT we can configure devices to carry out certain types of activities, for example, in the case of implementing this internet in our home, it could work for us to measure and calculate the water temperature when we go to shower, as well as opening and closing blinds, turning on televisions, turning lights off and on, opening doors, and only through a device that communicates with others.

We must know that the internet of things can cover many aspects of our lives, it can be applied in areas such as financial, politics, medicine, business, etc. However, we know that it has not yet been fully developed, and that there are still millions of people who do not implement this type of internet due to certain limitations that can affect us, such as:

• Centralization: This factor makes us have to depend on the organizations or central entities that are in charge of the IOT, therefore, it makes it completely centralized and we will not be completely sure about our data, since they will be neither protected nor encrypted.

• Large costs: This type of internet is more advanced than the traditional one that we are used to using, therefore, it offers us many advantages so that we can operate through it in a more comfortable way, facilitating many activities on a daily basis.

This means that it works with a more advanced technology, which can turn out to be more expensive than the conventional one, therefore, not all people will be able to implement this type of internet in their lives.

• Security: Security may be one of the most limiting factors that can affect this type of internet, since being always intercommunicated with our devices, we put our stored data at risk, making us more prone to to network attacks.

• Blockchain the solution?

We all know that one of the great advantages of blockchain technology is the decentralization that characterizes it and the volatility in its network compared to other technologies, therefore, I consider that blockchain could be a great advantage in IOT if we see it as a great benefit to eliminate the limitations that we mentioned above.

Blockchain is a technology that works with the implementation of cryptography, that is, it protects and safeguards any type of information without the fear that the data will be changed or altered, it also allows any information that enters it, to be distributed through a registry or chain of blocks, which in IOT this does not happen.

Therefore, I consider that blockchain would be a great solution for the future of IOT, since its network would be more secure and scalable, in addition we would not be so prone to attacks or alterations of our data, since the main characteristic of blockchain is immutability and falsification of the same. This is possible due to the way in which the information is distributed in each chain of blocks, in an organized and secure manner, guaranteeing us total transparency.

The future of IOT is better with blockchain as:

• Decentralization: We know that blockchain is characterized by working independently, that is, without central entities that regulate or censor its network, therefore, this would allow IOT to be more secure and completely independent, allowing it to Users that their data is safe and without fear of being altered or changed.

• Security: As I mentioned before, IOT may not have the appropriate level of security to provide users with a secure agreement, therefore, with the implementation of blockchain in its network, it would work with smart contracts to help you determine certain rules and guidelines to protect user safety. Thus achieving the interconnection between the devices is carried out safely.

• Scalability: With the help of blockchain, the IOT network will work with a more scalable and efficient system, allowing data and information to be processed faster, or even achieving the union of more devices to execute operations at the same time.

• Privacy: We know that blockchain works with cryptography, a computer system that allows us to protect and encrypt our data to avoid risks, therefore, for the future of IOT it would be granting its users a level of more secure privacy, where it would guarantee that their data is safe.

• Coordination and alteration of data: In the IOT system it may happen that for some reason the network presents failures and that the data is altered, thus achieving that the functions are not executed correctly or that do not fulfill their task, therefore, blockchain by working their information in a distributed manner, would eliminate the risk of this happening and achieving effective coordination in each of the devices that intercommunicate.

For these and more reasons, blockchain would be ideal for the future of IOT technology, since its union would allow it to work in a more secure and reliable way, allowing it to provide users with a more effective level of quality.

2) Research and create content in the following IoT Blockchain use case. (Filament)

Such is the case of IOT and how it has impacted the world of technology, we have been able to see the advantages and certain limitations that it offers us, therefore the implementation of blockchain technology in it is its great future.

Although it is true that both networks are still in full development in the world, since not all people use them, however, the union of both can create a very significant impact on the ecosystem, so I think that in a few years this unification can be very useful for the world of technology.

Blockchain continues in constant evolution and every day it continues to surprise us more and more, therefore, every day new companies grow that promote and develop the evolution of industries in the market, such is the case of Filament that is responsible for supporting the union of the internet of things with blockchain, offering tools and adjustments that serve to offer a better, safer and totally effective service.
