I am delighted to take part in the Crypto Academy Season 3 Beginners' course - Task 1 lecture by @sapwood. It is indeed very interesting and I learnt a lot of new things.

PoB in Steemit blockchain is an acronym of Proof-of-Brain.

According to Markku Jantunen,

Proof-of-Brain is a catchy name for the distribution of author and curation rewards on Steem. It is said to be based on “proof of brain” as in decided by the community to go to authors according to the worth of their content, which serves and the “proof of brain” of the author.

Proof-of-Brain is much more than the above definition. PoB comprises of the reward pool, Steem Power and the wisdom of the people to determining the good and bad articles published on the Steemit platform.

In Steem Blockchain, the reward pool is used to motivate or encourage content authors, content curators, Witnesses, Steem DAO, Vested Token Holders. Steemit ecosystem distributes 65% of the total reward pool to authors and curators.

Steemit gives curators the influence power to upvote or downvote contents through a stake-weighted mechanism known as Steem Power(SP). The number of Steem Power a curator has determines the influence power he or she has to upvote or downvote posts.

Steemit ecosystem provides its content authors the opportunity to write good, original and quality articles and publish them on the Steemit platform and get rewarded by the curator's vote according to the originality and quality of their content. Before curators up-vote or down-vote any article published on the Steemit platform, they use the wisdom of the people to assess and determine good and bad contents. Curators up-vote author's content if it is original and of good quality and down-vote author's contents that are plagiarized or posts that are spammed.

This process helps to encourage content creator to write and publish quality, original and articles that add values to people. It also helps to discourage plagiarism and bad content.

What does curation mean to you in Steem Block-chain?

To me, curation means the process of determining how valuable or harmful authors contents are for Steem Block-chain. Curation is not just all about voting a Post, it is much more than that.

From our lecture, I understand that curation means reading post, diligently checking the originality and quality of author's content, and voting the content (up-voting or down-voting).

According to Crypto Academy Season 3 : Task 1 lecture, @sapwood teaches that curation has to do with :

• reading a post
• Diligently checking the trustworthy source of the content
• Checking if the content adds value to people's life

He advised that if the content adds value to people's life, that we can reseem to further dissect & disseminate the information. And if the content happens to be plagiarized/spam content, that we should indicate that in the post and let the community know the existence of such harmful content.

Therefore, I have learnt that if I found out that a content adds value to my life and can also help other Steemians, that I can up-vote it and possibly resteem it so that my followers can see it. But if I found out that a content is plagiarized or spammed, that I should neither vote nor resteem it, instead I should either down-vote it or indicate that the post is a bad or harmful content so that other Steemians will know.

What are the benefits of building SP?

Our progress and success in Steemit block-chain lies largely in the building of our Steem Power (SP). This is because of the following benefits:

• building SP gives us more influence power. In Steemit, the more Steem Power we have the more influence power we
  have to distribute tokens from reward pool
• building higher SP attracts favors from Steemit reward mechanism
• building SP helps us to create and manage a community
• building SP increases our influence and helps us get more followers
• building SP helps us obtain greater rewards with TRX. This is because every 1 SP we earn gives us 1 TRX as a reward.
  When we get more SP, we get more TRX award.

The importance of building Steem Power in Steemit can not be overemphasized. Investing in building our Steem Power helps us to achieve great result in the Steemit ecosystem.

How do you explain self-upvote as a good or bad social behavior & why?

Self-upvote is the act of one up-voting his or her own post by him or herself. The reason people self-upvote is just to gain reward. When one self-upvotes, the person gets both the curator and author's reward. This is a very bad social behavior and should be condemned.

The purpose of writing articles and publishing them on Steemit platform is for other people to read and add values to their lives. Up-voting should be done by other people who read another person's post and appreciate it, and not an author up-voting his/her own post.

Self-upvote is very wrong and not a good social behavior because of the following reasons:

• It does not encourage Proof-of-Brain arrangement system in Steemit
• It can make authors lose sense of quality content, because self up-voting aims at getting more rewards to oneself.
• It does not encourage social relationships
• It does not encourage creating community

What are the different tokens do you earn by socializing in Steem Blockchain?

The tokens that one can earn by socializing in Steem Blockchain include:

1. Steem:
   Steem coin is the cryptocurrency of Steemit. It is the fundamental cryptocurrency on Steemit blockchain network on which other two cryptocurrencies (Steem Dollars and Steem Power) dependent on.
   We earn Steem Coin as a reward when we create and publish original and good contents on Steemit platform.

2. Steem Dollar (SBD):
   This is another cryptocurrency we earn in the Steem blockchain. 1 SBD is designed to be equivalent to the value of 1 US dollar. Steem Dollars can be exchanged for Steem Power. We can cash out our SBD by converting it to Steem or Bitcoin, and then converting it to fiat currency.

3. Steem Power (SP):
   Steem Power (SP) is a token that symbolizes how much influence we have on the Steemit platform. It is our influential power to vote in Steemit. The more Steem Power we have the more influence power we have to distribute reward from reward pool.
   We receive more reward when we are up-voted by someone with high Steem Power. By default, our rewards are paid in 50% SBD / 50% SP. Steem Power is very important because without it one cannot vote in Steemit platform. Unlike the other two cryptocurrencies on Steemit, SP cannot be traded on exchanges.
   We can “power up” when we want to build our SP and “power down” when we want to exchange it for Steem coin.

4. Tron (TRX):
   This is an additional TRX rewards we earn alongside Steem Power when posting content on the Steem block-chain. Steemit awards 1 TRX for every 1 SP we earned. This award is only for Steem Power and is not given when we earn Steem or SBD.
   When we set our reward to 100% Power Up which gets all our rewards as Steem Power, we will be awarded two times TRX when compared with posts set to 50% SBD/50% SP.

Conclusion

In this homework post, I have been able to explain the meaning of PoB and curation in Steemit block-chain. I have also highlighted the benefits of building SP, explained what self-up-vote is all about and why it is bad social behavior.

However, I explored Coinmarketcap.com and indicated rank, STEEM price, and coinmarketcap of STEEM with a very clear screenshots.

Lastly, I have been able to mention different tokens we earn by socializing in Steem Block-chain.

It is indeed an exciting learning exercise. I am very happy to be part of it.
