I am @cosai99 and this is my second task in Crypto-Academy Season 3, the beginner's course, facilitated by @sapwood and others like @dilchamo and @nane15. I am much grateful for being granted this opportunity to take part in such a big project, giving Steemians a very broad knowledge of the Cryptocurrency world and how to effectively utilize it to our advantage. Without further ado, let us start with Task 1

QUESTION 1

What is PoB?

Proof-of-Brain(PoB) is a mechanism Steemit uses to grade the value of the content produced by Authors, and voted by Curators.

The value of the content is based on how much rewards can be distributed from the curation of the content or "post", as Steemians would refer it to, which is dependent on the quality of content based on the thoughts of the community or better still the curators of the content. Here, the content provided by the author should be original work and not taken anywhere by the author. Hence, the PoB system discourages plagiarism as it can affect reward distribution, as this will be of the distaste of the author since the primary goal is to earn money. Hence, the higher gains of authors and curators. It must be known that the PoB makes the blockchain work on the principle of Stake-weighed Mechanism, meaning that the level of rewards that can be obtained by Authors and Curators is extremely dependent on the Amount of Steem Power that they possess, as Steem Power(SP) can be seen as the investment that an account holder in Steem has to contribute to the Steem Ecosystem. The Higher the SP, the more influence you place on the reward distribution from the reward pool, and the Higher the reward gains.

It must be noted that PoB is concerned with 3 major things:

  • The 65% reward distribution of authors and curators. (the quality of work determined by the curation of the community affects how much rewards can be drawn from the reward pool if talking about quantitywise and not as in percentage)

  • The Steem Power of Stakeholders. (this is related to the first point in the sense that the level of influence both the curator and author possess will determine how much both can distribute from the reward pool)

  • The ability of the community to determine if the content is good or bad. (the view of the quality of post determined by the community is the primary deterrent of the level of rewards gained. e.g. if they find it good, more curators will vote and more rewards will be gotten, if not, the converse occurs)

But of course, this is specific to Steem Ecosystem but covers the general idea concerning PoB.😉

Simply put, PoB concerns the community's opinion of the reward distribution based on the quality of content produced by authors determined also by the same community(a form of decentralized organization).

What does curation mean to you in Steem Blockchain?

Curation is the upvoting or downvoting of content. This is like a certification that content produced by an author is of good quality.

Screenshot (48).png

In the picture above, the upvote button is in Green and the downvote button is in Red.

Upvote
The upvote button is used to distribute rewards from the reward pool. This reward is distributed between the author and the curator in a 50-50 ratio(that is to say sharing the 65% reward distribution from the reward pool). When you upvote, an amount in US dollars(USD) appears but note that this isn't your normal USD, but rather Steem Blockchain Dollars(SBD). Do not be deceived by your ignorance😂😂😂. This is highly influenced by Steem Power and directly proportional to such. Hence the SP of the Curator determines the rewards as discussed in explaining PoB. So the rewards naturally flow from the rewards pool to the post, hence increasing the post payout subject.

Downvote
The downvote button is used to redistribute rewards in the reward pool. That is to say to return rewards from the post to the reward pool. This then reduces the post-payout subject. The reason why downvoting is done is that perhaps the content has been flagged as inappropriate or that the post payout subject for a post exceeds the amount deserved and hence is required to redistribute the reward among authors appropriately. But don't be discouraged if you are downvoted. It doesn't necessarily mean your content is bad.

The voting is supplemented by voting mana, similar to a game energy bar that needs to be replenished after some time. For every upvote, there is a 2% vote mana consumption and for every downvote, there is an 8% vote mana consumption, meaning that the upvote mana is 4 times as big as the downvote mana. The vote mana is replenished at a rate of 20% every day so no need to worry But it is recommended that the vote mana be kept up at 80% to exercise full vote power.

It should be noted that the time to vote for a post is of the essence. It is recommended that a post to be voted is done 5 minutes after the post has been upload to enjoy the 100% rewards for curation. After, from 5mins to 6 days 12 hours the rewards gained by the curator is at 100%. From that time till the post payout maturity(which is 7 days old), the rewards keep declining until it reaches a 0% curator benefit at post maturation.

It also must be known that the curation of posts follows a convergent linear reward graph, meaning that a lot of curators find your content appealing and would see it as a high-quality post. Hence the reward gain would be very high but again it must be noted that it depends on the SP of the curators. If found at the sub-linear region, meaning a lot of curators hadn't voted on your content and this can be due to many reasons like bad content or even that many of them hadn't come across it.

It should be known that witnesses in Steem are also voted as such.

What are the benefits of building SP?

The main benefit of holding or building up SP is to have a greater advantage of the reward distribution from the reward pool. As discussed earlier, the more SP you have, the more influence you have on the rewards you have. Also, this goes same for the curator of a post.

Again, the SP affects how much rewards in quantity the Vested Token Holder accumulates from a content posted.

Since there is a STEEM-TRX Integrated Wallet, the SP one gains also affects how much TRX tokens a user attains in a 1 SP: TRX ratio. Hence the more SP you have, the more TRX tokens will be generated.

Think of it simple as an investment made to a business firm. The more investments you make, the more dividend you receive.

Other benefits include actively serving in the Blockchain Governance(meaning if you have a very high SP, you get to be on of the 20+1 witnesses in Steem Blockchain), contribute to the growth of a community( You can draw a lot of users to join a community if that community has a very large SP) and become a well- known influencer in the Steemit World and have a lot of people looking up to you(more or less like high reputation).

How would you explain self-upvote and a good or bad social behaviour and why?

I think self-upvote would not be classified under either good or bad. It just depends if self-upvoting actually has any benefit to you. If you have a high SP and it can get you somewhere by self-upvoting then sure I would encourage you to self-upvote. If the converse is true, I wouldn't advise you do that.

It is similar to liking a photo on any social media platform and we don't see anyone chastizing another for liking his/her own picture. To a certain point, it may even exude some level of confidence in your content and dra people to check out your post and curate. So I would not hinch it to good or bad but rather if it is beneficial to you or not.

This is a screenshot of the coinmarketcap of Steem as of Today, 13th October, 2021.

The one in the black square indicates the Steem ranking, which is 198th in the global crypto-trade world.

The one in blue indicates the price of Steem in USD.

The one in purple indicates the coinmarketcap of stem, which is the total amount in USD, in BTC and ETH circulating in supply.

What are the different tokens earned by socializing in Steem Blockchain?

By socializing in Steem you earn:

  • Steem tokens in the form of Steem

  • Steem Power

  • SBD

  • TRX tokens as a result of the Steem-TRX Integration Wallet.

These tokens can be configurated by clicking the Advanced Settings hyperlink. This affects how you receive your rewards either by 50% SBD/50% SP or as 100% SP or you may choose to decline the rewards.

Thank you🙏🙏🙏
