Steemit Crypto Academy | Season 4, Week 1 : Homework for Professor @yohan2on- Blockchain Technology and the Internet of Things (IoT)
Welcome to another season of the steemit crypto academy (season 4). I'm glad to be a part of another fresh and exciting class championed by our professors. Here is a fantastic lecture on blockchain and the Internet of things delivered by prof @yohan2on, and as I've read, understood, and digested the content, below is my homework. Please reason along. Thanks
In the first question, there are two terms.
Blockchain
Internet of things
Internet of things (IoT) is simply a name coined by Kevin Ashton. IOT are systems of interconnected devices through the blockchain (internet) that allow these devices to communicate with one another
The relationship between blockchain and IoT
Interact with the blockchain by storing and receiving information and data from sensors
Data is emitted to the IoT platforms on the blockchain from the sensors on devices
The platform receives the information from different sources
The authenticity of the information is tested, analyzed, and the valuable data is extracted and shared across the devices.
Many tech companies are doing great IOT stuff
Airbiquity located in washinton. Connected cars
Tovala is a food tech company located in chicago See their Scan to cook oven
Josh app. Control other devices with your mobile phone
So from the above explanation, why the future internet of things depend on the blockchain is because of the following
Data anonymity: The blockchain privacy system helps to secure the IoT information gotten from the IoT devices.
- - Data security: Every data entering the blockchain is secured and they are tested before verification to make every IOT information authentic, and secured
-
Real time tracking: Tracking is made easy with the combination of blockchain and IOT. Location can be tracked accurately without any interference Access control: Restriction can be triggered
- - Better quality control: The IoT mostly deals with the outside world, so because blockchain has a better quality control system, it becomes the best go-to for the IOT
- - Transact faster: What about the faster transaction? Oh! Information is gotten within a twinkle of an eye on the blockchain, and part of what is needed for any organization to thrive is access to information swiftly. Blockchain has it all in this regard, so this is one of the reasons IOT depend on the blockchain to carry out their doings
- - Decentralization: Here we talk about the decentralized nature of blockchain where no one is controlling anything happening on the blockchain. The decentralized nature makes it easy for everybody to view and download the entire transaction history. Sensors are used to send and receive information from the blockchain without any third party interference, and this makes transactions smooth and easy
- - Immutable: One of the attributes the blockchain offers is it's immutability. The data in the blockchain cannot be manipulated, because blockchain has to do with the chain of blocks, and each block is connected to one another, of which all have hash value. If someone decides to manipulate any data, the connection would definitely break, so this makes it impossible for blocks to be manipulated, and for this reason, IOT really depend on the blockchain for smooth transaction and data safety
Let's see a few cons/limitations of blockchain/IOT There's nothing with advantages without a lagging side. We all know that the blockchain enables trust and cooperation between people specifically around maintaining the ledger and securing the system, and this module of trust is built around mathematical calculations which are regarded as the proof of work algorithm. However, hackers are trying to always decode what was coded. The 51% attach has been a threat to the blockchainMore so, the world is gradually changing from the way blockchain and IoT is bringing value to it. Like seriously, huge manpower is needed in the blockchain/IoT sector but there is a limited number of people interested simply because it involves expertise. We have more users than doers. This is one of the limitationsAlso, the cost of integration is huge. But I think since the value it offers is top-notch, it worth it.
Question 2 Research and create content on the following IoT Blockchain use case - Filament
source Filament Filament is a tech platform created to ensure the smooth communication of devices to transact value and building trusted devices with the blockchain. They are focused on building hardware and software, and what these devices do is that they transact value. They are connected with blockchain technology to bring value in a real-life scenario. In other to expand, make work easier, a Blocklet Foundation Kit was developedThis hardware was mainly developed for hardware developers that focus on IoT. It is an embedded technology for blockchain transactions. The blocklet was produced to facilitate the deployment of IoT deviceshttps://www.linkedin.com/company/filament-networks/videos/native/urn:li:ugcPost:6497883834078543872/

The two links above shows a slight explanation on the autonomous connected vehicles. I think this was what prompted the collaboration of filament with the University of Nevada, Reno on an autonomous vehicle research initiative
source I think Filament is a tech company that is not limited to anything in the world of IoT. it is obvious that they are working to create an end-to-end solution to the challenges we face in the real world by their innovations. Creating an intelligent car that uses no fuel is a solution to buying costly fuel. Their creativity has enabled them to generate more business models, and as the evolutionary technology keeps moving, they are making their products seamlessly interact with the existing processesConclusion Blockchain technology and the internet of things have been pulling great stunts in the world, and they will continue to do wonders. It's obvious they are still in their infancy, but looking at what the technologies have achieved within the short period of existence, it's not an understatement to say blockchain and IOT will take over the world in yearsThe blockchain has created room for the IoT to operate and we can see the effect in our everyday life. We use swap cards to open doors now. There's no need to carry bunches of keys around. At the comfort of our home, we can monitor what's going on in our offices. Cars can drive themselves, and many other things can be achieved with these technologies.
I hope there's gonna be a self-driving aircraft and ship someday. LOL. I think it's possible. We would get there with timeIt's interesting participating in this homework. Thanks to the professor for taking us through.
Thanks for reading
