INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)

It is the network behind a physical object that is fixed with sensors, software, and other technologies to connect and exchange data with other devices, systems over the internet through a wireless network. The physical world comes in contact with the digital and they work together.

These devices are special as they can interconnect with each other inside the network eliminating human control. IOT has developed to be one of the important technologies we have in our present world making life easy as we can fix objects like cars, homes, and kitchen appliances, light bulbs to the internet through the connection of devices that can aid communication smooth and continuous between people, and things.

An example of an IOT application is

There are many of them

  • smart door lock
  • smart smoke detector
  • smart fire extinguisher
  • smart helmet

This smart helmet works in a way that you pair your motorcycle, bicycle, snowboarding anything that has a helmet with your smartphone should in case an accident occurred and your head hit on the ground the phone will receive a signal to call for help impulsively.

There are other examples too like the connection of CCTV cameras to your smartphone to enable you to watch external individuals trying to manipulate may be in your business or home.



WHY THE FUTURE OF IOT WILL DEPEND ON BLOCKCHAIN

The IOT is facing a problem as it still depends on a centralized platform. Any centralized platform is been controlled by humans and as a result of this important data will be unprotected from hackers.

Here comes the decentralized blockchain that can settle this problem. Since blockchain technology demand transferring of data in an encrypted style over a decentralized structure, and encrypted data is stored on a distributed file. It makes it not possible for one to replace records of data existing already.

In other words, if IOT is stored using blockchain it will impose strong protection preventing the negative attacks from having entry to the network.



HOW CAN BLOCKCHAIN SOLVE IOT CHALLENGE

Many challenges are facing IOT which are security challenges, compatibility challenges, scalability challenges, etc.

Security challenges: lack of security is a major worry as it gives hackers the chance to manipulate and carry out their fraudulent activities. It is speculated that two-factor authorization, biometrics, etc can solve this challenge however, the introduction of blockchain to IOT would solve this challenge always.

Why blockchain can solve this issue of IOT security is base on its decentralized nature there will be no need of authorizing transaction blockchain uses cryptography algorithms. Algorithms are mapped out to support blockchain to put a stop to the misrepresentation of data and enhance security.

Scalability: is also a challenge faced by IOT ability to hold the huge amount of data collected by a large network of sensors and possibly lower the transaction processing speed.



SOME OF THE WAYS IOT APPLICATIONS ARE DEPLOYED.

  • to create new efficiencies in manufacturing through the machines and to monitor product quality:

in this case, machines are always monitored and examine if it's carrying out the required tolerance. And in another hand, the product can be monitored to spot and address quality drawbacks.

  • improving tracking and ring-fencing of physical assets:

Tracking authorizes a business to determine the location of an asset instantly while the ring-fencing permit asset high in value to be protected from theft and disposal.

The company has a long-range system, low power, and is structured to distribute cellular connectivity and wifi in unreliable surroundings.

Filament network package allows devices to interact connect and transact value without relying on a central authority.
