What are Ruling Number and Destiny Number in Numerology

There are two types of numbers in a birth date that play an important role in our lives – Ruling Number and Destiny Number. For an example we take a birth date 20-07-1990.

In this above birth date 20 is the date of the month. If we reduce this date to a single digit, it becomes 2+0 = 2. This number 2 is the ruling number of the person. Similarly if your birth date is 17 of any month, then your ruling number is 1+7 = 8. Or if your birth date is 5, then your ruling number is 5. Ruling number is also considered as a lucky number of the person. From the first example, all the dates of the month where the final digit comes to 2, such as 2, 11, 20 and 29 are lucky dates and the person should take all his important decision and action on these dates.

Similarly all the years in life where the final total after reducing it to a single digit is 2 are the important years for the person and usually auspicious events take place in these years. Again, in the first example, the years 2, 11, 20, 29, 38, 47, 56, 65, 74 and 83 are significant years. In order to arrive at the same single digit we have to add the number 9 to the earlier figure.

Destiny number is also known as the ‘Fadic Number’ or the ‘Fate Number’. We have to reduce the complete birth date to a single digit to get the destiny number. In the first illustration, the complete birth date is 20-07-1990. We have to add all the digits in the birth date to obtain the destiny number. Thus, 2+0+0+7+1+9+9+0 = 28 → 2+8 = 10 → 1+0 = 1. So in this case number 1 is the destiny number of the person.

The significance of destiny number is that it goes on repeating and recurring in the life of the person whether he desires it or not. The events or incidents take place may be extremely good or very bad but they are important and significant events and the person has no control over the number and the events. Suppose the person fails in a college exam or secures a lucrative job, the date on which either of these events take place will be governed by the number 1. Either the total of all the numbers of that particular date will be 1, or the date of the month when the incident takes place is 1/10/19/28.
