Life is like a race and every racer has his own tract and destination. Reaching your destination is the ultimate goal. Rewards are only given to those who reached the set destination point. Focusing on the destination point is a must if success is to be achieved; keeping your body under control in order to run without hindrance. The bible book says that everyone involved in race exercises self-control in all things. He avoids everything that may impede his running.

It is not everybody that starts a race that run to the finishing line. Some people stumbled and fall on the way; although they did not intend to. Apostle Paul relates Christian life as that of running a race and therefore admonishes Christians to run, looking to Jesus Christ who is the race master.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)¬

Jesus Christ is the grand master of the Christian race (Faith). The way to the destination is well known to him. There is no short cut way to the destination. He wants us to make it to the destination point hence He admonishes us to look up to him steadfastly. Looking sideways is a distraction from the track.

In this race there are oppositions. Forces that exert an opposition pull from the tract. You may be sidetracked only if you lose focus. Looking up to the master of the race is the only sure way to win. Everybody runs to win but not everybody runs to the finishing line.

Many a racers have run counter track as a result of the cares of this world. When we allow the opposition, Satan the devil to suggest to us or encumber us with worldly weights and cares, we lose focus and miss the track. Jesus Christ is the author of the race and he is also the finisher. It means that the grace to run the race to finishing line is his to offer to those who steadfastly look up to him.

There are temptations to make us look sideways, to look up to man and things. These are side trackers we should be mindful of.

<But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow
and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:62 (NLT)

It is only those who run to the destination point that gets a reward. Look up and Keep on moving on track; the finishing line is in sight.
