THE FALL OF EDUCATION IN WEST AFRICA
Quality education is one of the factors a developing country should have.The major problem Africa as a continent is facing is a decline in their education standard.
Below are some of the factors that leads to rapid decline of education standard in west Africa
CORRUPTION
This is one of the major causes of decline in education standard in so many countries, in developed countries like the United kingdom,United states of America, Canada.In these countries, the minister of education sends supervisors to each school to inspect all the equipment and facilities in that institution.
The supervisors send feedback to the minister and if the institution is not properly equipped,
- The institution will loose its accreditation or
- The owners will immediately fund the institution.
But here in west Africa, Nigeria to be precisely, if those supervisors are sent, the institution in specific will try to convince them with payoff so as to not put their school in jeopardy.And that is corruption.
So corruption is one of the major causes of decline in education standards in west Africa.
LACK OF INTEREST FROM THE GOVERNMENT
This is another cause of education decline in developing countries,because the government shows no interest in education.Rather they send their children abroad to study.
Government tend to be lackadaisical in education related matters.They rather show interest in politics rather than education. How can a senator who is not a graduate has a higher salary structure than a professor.
This aspect of government showing no interest in education often leads to strike.This is because the government don't pay the teachers their salaries, and the students will bear all the consequences.
TRIBALISM
Tribalism is another factor that influences the decline in education standard in Africa.
Tribalism is simply the state of living together as a tribe.that simply means people tend to discriminate others who are not their tribe.
This tribalism is one of the major causes of fall in education standard in west Africa.A philosopher once said that , a time will come when men will not be judged by the colour if their skin but by the content of what they have.some Africans who are privileged to study abroad complained of tribalism, it was said that the whites call the blacks monkeys.
Some of the countries that practice this tribalism are Ukraine, Canada. So tribalism is a major cause of decrease in education standard in west Africa.
EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE
This is a major cause of decline in education system not only in Africa but also in the world.Examination malpractice can be caused by the following
- The teacher not completing his course outline
- Inability of the student to read
- Inability of the student to attend classes
Examination malpractice has led to so many disasters in the world.
And examination malpractice should be properly addressed in every country
