INTRODUCTION ABOUT WINDOWS DESKTOP
What are the most popular Operating system used on computer these days. The reason is that most personal computers use it to perform its operations.
WHAT ARE WINDOWS?
Windows are operating systems used to control and service the computer operations. Various versions of Windows have been introduced for our use today, with each serving as a replacement of the other. Even the windows are the replacement of DOS. The versions are windows (95, 98, 200, Millennium, New technology (NT), XP etc). Each new version of window has an improved features and accessories. Disk Operating system (DOS) was replaced by windows because of the inability of dos to meet high- resolution graphic image manipulation requility carried out in some operations on the computer. DOS uses text command approach only while windows operating systems use graphical based commands such as icons and text to carry out its command instructions.
Windows have interesting features. It has the capacity to use more than one computer application packages on a screen at a time. That is to switch from one package to another. You can copy an interesting graphics in one package and use it on another package on the same windows of the same computer. This is what is called multiprocessing operation.
Windows are easier to use, more reliable, user friendly, and interactive as can be seen being used by most computer operators. The windows face is called the desktop. Windows display icons to be used on computer on it's active desktop. All that is needed to operate some system commands are contained in its menus or icons. As Operating system that is graphic in nature, it's environment introduces new and more streamlined ways for user to work.
The desktop of Windows contains taskbar, which contains the start button menu of the version of Windows enumerated above. This helps to operate computer faster and enter programs easily. Unlike DOS where you have to remember the commands for programs, then type it at the DOS prompt and then wait for response from the computer. Icons on the desktop represent programs, folders, and files.
The start button is located at the far left and of the taskbar. The taskbar has the system clock, internet explorer, icon, outlook express, and much other information. Two or more packages currently in use can be located on the taskbar that users can switch from one to another. Below is a typical view of a window desktop.
