Currently, there is a monopoly on who can ship chicks. That monopoly also has a shipping embargo in effect right now. At the local feed stores, the price per chick is rising. Moreover, at least one state is trying to pass a bill banning the shipping of live chicks. The future of chicks is uncertain, and it appears it may be increasingly difficult to become self-sufficient in the future...
