SLC S22W1 /Nociones Básicas de Cartografía Digital
Hello Friends in the Shine with Steem Community, best regards to you all.
On this occasion I would like to participate in a teaching team that studies the basics of cartography, this certainly has many benefits for me personally. By learning about this I gain knowledge about maps and increase my knowledge about this.
As a first-week lesson, we will get to know more about the basics of cartography, and I am happy to share information about the layout of the region in our country Indonesia, hopefully what I present is in accordance with expectations and benefits to me personally and to those who read it. Well, let's start learning about this with a task that has been given by @soywilfredg, warm greetings to you.
Make a map of your country freely (it can be on paper, on a computer or on your phone, the only condition is that the map should not be copied. In other words: the map does not have to be perfect). |
---|
Using a single sheet of A4-sized white paper, I began to make drawings using a pencil throughout the vast territory of Indonesia. Out of a total area of 1.905 million km2, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. At least we have 13,466 homes spread from West to East, with an area of water reaching 3,257,483 km2.
Tools for drawing maps of Indonesia
The map of Indonesia that I drew
On the free map you created, look for where the capital of your country is located and where the State/Department/province where you live is located. |
---|
Below is a picture that shows the province that is the capital of Indonesia today.
The picture below is the location or province where I currently live, which is the westernmost province in the country of Indonesia. The province was named Aceh Province, with an area of 58,375.63 km2. Here is a picture of the location pointer :
Search within the map you created, some states/departments/provinces that you know by heart (Only those that you know / remember at the time, do not deceive yourself by cheating). |
---|
You need to know, that with an area of this size of course we have many provinces that are small parts of the local government system. At least we have 38 provinces located in the 5 largest islands in Indonesia, namely :
- Sumatra Island.
- Java Island.
- Kalimantan Island.
- Sulawesi Island.
- And The Island Of Papua.
Name 3 places you don't know yet in your country that you would like to visit and why. |
---|
With 5 major return in Indonesia, and there are 38 provinces in it. Sure I have a lot of places I haven't been to, and this might be a little hard to make happen. Did you know, to go from West Indonesia to East Indonesia, it takes 13 hours by air or plane. This is because the distance from the western tip of Indonesia to the eastern tip of Indonesia, is 4,695 km.
And the choice of regions that I would like to visit is :
Bali island, central Indonesia.
Maluku, eastern Indonesia.
And Papua, Raja Ampat. Eastern Indonesia.

a) What does a map mean to you?
b) What elements do you think are most relevant to understanding a map and why?
With a map function that is large enough, it has become mandatory if the map provides an overview and useful information to see and know. The possible elements that should be present in my opinion are :
- Map title or name of the area.
- The scale of the map, this is a comparison of the area.
- Coordinate lines, as the scale used.
- Map symbol, this can be a description of the region.
- The direction of the wind, to know which side of the region.
c) do you think cartography is important or not so important? Why?
Yes, cartography is very important to know. Even more so for some specific fields of Science, which study these kinds of things. Its functions and benefits are very big to know, and I am quite happy to be able to learn about them.
Maybe this is all I can explain in accordance with the theme of teaching that I have learned, I hope what I write can be an interesting reading to introduce Indonesia to you all, and of course useful for me personally.
Before I end this post, I invite @elagusella, @fjjrg, and @huraira50 to participate, best regards to all of you.
