Welcome to my publication, am glad I am here to be able to participate in this week's contest engagement organized by the steemit team in subsidiary with this community.

What is meant by language? Define language in your own words.

Languages are English, Arabic, French, and many more, it is pertinent to note that there are more than 5000 languages in the world, to be able to understand language more, we then implement communication, language is a way of communicating with two or more people in a society or around the world, it enables better understanding of the interaction between people in a society. It is used to express thought, emotions, and feeling toward people through constructions of words either by speaking or writing.

The mode of communicating with languages could be by oral speaking, sign language, or writing. In other to be able to communicate with others, we have to know the language around that society or community, it will be difficult to communicate if you don’t understand the language spoken in your environment. That being said, language plays a major role in connecting two or more people as long as they understand the same language. The best part is that various languages could be studied, a person in such a profession is called a linguist.

How language connects an individual to his family, glob, or specific society.

Languages as we have known is a means of communicating, they connect individual in such a way that when an unknown person understand your language, he/she become your brother or sister, as such proper introduction will begin to know each other better, as such it has connected you to someone you just met.

Understanding the same language will create better connections between the member of the community or society, the fact that I understand the Yoruba language and I stay in the north will not create a better connection because of the language barrier between us, but with time.

if I begin to understand and speak the Hausa language, it will bring good interaction and better connection between us. extending our relationship because of the similar language we speak together and this will help the society grow more.

In a business-related issue, language is important, when we can’t comprehend what a buyer needs or what the seller says, this will be bad for business as such it doesn’t create any form of connection but if the case is otherwise, I guess you understand my point now.

Which is yours mother tongue? and which languages are spoken and understood in your home other than your mother tongue?

I am a Nigerian, and in Nigeria, we are of three different clans with different languages aside from the generally accepted language which is English, in Nigeria, there are three major tribes with different languages, we have the Yorubas which dominate the western part of Nigeria with a speaking language known as the Yoruba language, In the east are the Igbo tribe, with an Igbo dialect/language and in the far north is the Hausa language spoken by the Hausas, Coming from the western part of Nigeria, my mother tongue is the Yoruba language.

The language spoken and understood in our home aside from my mother's tongue is the English language, this is as a result of the generally acceptance of this language and it is our official language in Nigeria.

How many languages do you know and how did you learn more than one language?

I know two languages, my mother tongue is Yoruba and English language which is our official language in Nigeria.

As a child, you are being taught how to pronounce your mother tongue before being taught the official language, growing up I began to master the ways to speaking and pronounce my mother tongue, and I got admitted to school from basic class to higher learning, we were been taught English Language compulsorily, to be able to interact among students and teachers because not every pupil in your school will understand your mother tongue.

In which language did you study in school to university and which language do you prefer in the education system in your country and why?

As I have said earlier, I studied the English language throughout my school days, and on preferring a language I would still prefer the English language to be taught in the educational system in Nigeria.

The reason is that not everyone will understand your dialect or mother tongue, as such preferring such language in the educational system will limit us to some connection from international bodies rendering us limited to communicate with a very large number of people.

How one language or more than one language plays an important role in the development of society.?

In the development of society, more languages are prone to play a limited role in the development of the society, general acceptance of one language will help in the development of the society and it will play an important role because unity will reign, no one will play a role in favor of his clan or tribe, because of the general understanding of one language.

A use case is the current state of Cameroon and Nigeria, Cameroon is a bilingual country that is experiencing a major setback as regards favoritism of one language over another. Nigeria on the other hand has three major languages, the language difference has cause so many rift between tribes as such a split his requested which has caused many been disaster in the community.

How does culture relate to language?

Culture as they say is the way of life of a group of people, culture and language are intertwined, there cant be a one without another, to have a spoken language in a community or society, there will exist a culture. With your culture i can easily relate to your tribe and also with your language, i will understand the tribe you come from.

In conclusion, language teach culture to it people which communicates a sense of customs to its people

Would you like to prefer writing in your own language at the time of writing posting on steemit, if yes why and if not why not?

No no and no, yoruba language is my language and it is not understood by most people in Nigeria only the western people can understand the language, it is an official language widely spoken among the Yorubas.

it is a very complicated language with signs which derive it pronunciation, it is easily understood, but it very difficult to learn and write, i wouldn’t want to write my post in Yoruba language in steemit because of it limited acceptance and also because i want my information to reach everybody privilege to find my post, using the translator might misinform my message that i have passed across in the post so I wouldn’t want to stress people off my publications.

If you want to promote your language in the world, how will you do it? and if you already done, then how much success have you achieved?

Firstly promoting my language will begin by making it mandatory to every school from a basic level to a higher level

Visual upload of pronouncing of words, and publishing of book of different stages,

In my neighbour hood i will interact more with people that doesn’t understand the language and i will be patient enough to correct them if need be.

I will make sure to create a translator app mainly for Yoruba language any other language

I will support my captions on social media, engage more in other users post with my mother tongue and publish a lot of interesting stories on one social media using my mothers tongue, this will make it reach a wide number of people since social media like face book have millions of users.

i here invite my fellow mate to participate in the wonderful contest in the urdu community, @dboss @kawsar @rad-austine

Yeah. Mandating a language in a school makes it easier to understand at an early age and it's the best.

Language is very powerful, my brother. If you go to Hausa man to buy pepper or onion and you speak his language, you can be sure that he will sell better thing for you. That is the power of language.

I must confess, it's impressive to know that big Nigeria as we know it is made up of only 3 clans. I didn't know this till this competition.

Culture as they say is the way of life of a group of people, culture and language are intertwined, there cant be a one without another, to have a spoken language in a community or society, there will exist a culture.

It I a know fact that Language is a medium of expressing our culture. Culture and Language are truly interwoven. It will be difficult to understand culture without Language.
