Making traditional Thai sweets with bananas, ทำข้าวต้มมัดจากกล้วยในสวน

There were so many bananas ripening at the same time, so it’s time to make steamed banana in sticky rice! We had to cut the banana leaves for wrapping the sticky rice and banana. The string for tying the wrapping was made from bamboo. Everything used in making this Thai snack is from natural sources so they will become organic waste to enrich the soil later on.

ในสวนมีกล้วยสุกพร้อมกันมาก และเป็นช่วงวันศีลใหญ่หรือวันพระใหญ่ คนที่บ้านจึงคิดทำข้าวต้มมัด เพื่อเอาไปทำบุญที่วัด และไปแจกเพื่อนฝูง ตลอดจนเพื่อนบ้านด้วย อย่างแรกก็ต้องไปตัดใบกล้วยมาไว้ก่อน เอาไว้ห่อข้าวเหนียวใส่กล้วย ข้าวเหนียวนั้นมูลมาจากที่บ้าน เขาใส่กะทิและเผือกด้วย ส่วนเชือกมัดขนมก็เป็นตอกที่ทำมาจากไม้ไผ่ ฉะนั้นทุกอย่างที่ใช้ทำขนมนี้ เป็นของธรรมชาติทั้งหมด ไม่มีอะไรที่จะกลายเป็นขยะพลาสติกเลย เราชอบขนมของคนโบราณมาก เป็นธรรมชาติ และเป็นมิตรต่อโลกด้วย

We had to steamed these bundles of snacks for about forty minutes. The reason it took so long was we used charcoals made from branches of the big trees in our garden. It was a bit difficult to control the fire from charcoals and it was quite windy!

เราต้องนึ่งขนมนานมาก เพราะใช้เตาถ่านและถ่านก็ทำจากกิ่งไม้ในบ้าน ที่ตัดลงเมื่อต้นปี ลมแรงมากจึงควบคุมความรัอนยากมาก ต้องเปิดมาดูว่าสุกหรือยัง เราชิมดูขนมอร่อยเพราะกล้วยหวานกำลังดี ขนมขายดีมาก เขาเอาไปแจกหมดเกลี้ยงในเวลาชั่วพริบตา
