Act of Kindness || Crossing a Sea to Share the Blessings from Steemit

It is such a beautiful day for our planned charity event. Today, me and my fellow Steemians @traderpaw, @bisayakalog, @fabio2614, @kyrie1234, @rosevillariasa, @jmaxswivel, @julyootso literally go the extra mile just to conduct a charity event to Olango Island.

Olango Island is a 10-minute ride from mainland island of Lapu-Lapu City. But going to Olango is not easy. We have to fall in line under the scorching heat of the sun to wait for our boat ride.

After queing for almost 2 hours, we finally has our turn to sail.

Why Olango Island?
Althought Olango Island is known for its several tourist destinations including the Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary and natural sandbars, most islanders rely on fishing and other related fishing activities for income and survival. Collecting of shellfish is also an important activity on the island mostly done by women and children because it also provides both food and income for the family.

Most houses are made of bamboo, coconut lumber and nipa and mostly without running water and electricity.

Roaming around the island, we can tell that most of the islanders are living near or below poverty line.

Olango Island Charity Event
Me and my wife are assigned to buy the grocery items for the event. The items includes instant noodle, instant coffee and choco drinks for kids.

We arrived at the location starving from our jouney, thankfully @rosevilliarasa prepared a special lunch for us showcasing the island's famous seafoods.

Immediately after lunch, we proceed packing the grocery items. We have prepared a total of 25 packs of items consisting of 2 kilograms of rice, 2 sachets of instant noodles, 2 sachets of instant coffees and 2 sachets of choco drink for kids.

Distribution of Grocery Items
We roam around the island with the assistance of our guide @julyootso. We experience first hand the difficult living situations of some of the islanders.

We see children on poor health condition, senior citizens without proper medical consultations and several other families on extremely beyond poverty line.

This charity event may at least ease the difficulty that these people are experiencing.

We hope we can do more and we hope we can do it soon.
