Dear steemian friends, this time I will take part in a valuable lesson with the theme “Physical Therapy Intervention: Rotator Cuff Tendonitis”. To complete the requirements in this lesson, I would like to invite several other steemian friends to participate here, including bang @walictd pak @muzack1 and pak @pelon53.

In the lesson, several tasks are given that must be completed, such as:

1. What is rotator cuff tendonitis? Write in your own words after gaining knowledge from the lesson post. (Note: do not add specific tests or investigations and detailed treatments in this question. Write the answer precisely).

Initially, I rarely read about one of the diseases or disorders called Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, but with this very useful lesson, making me know that Rotator Cuff Tendonitis is a condition in which there is inflammation of the tendons, the most important of which is in the shoulder. We need to know that the rotator cuff has four muscles, including the supraspinatus, teres minor, infraspinatus, and subscapularis. not only the four muscles I mentioned, but there are also several other slightly different muscles that surround the shoulder joint and provide balance and free movement.

The causes of this Rotator Cuff Tendonitis are:

  • Because of the use of the joints in the shoulder excessively and also repeatedly.
  • There are also other causes such as injury or trauma which usually occurs suddenly to the shoulder.
  • We also often get Rotator Cuff Tendonitis caused by sports such as Swimming, Table Tennis, and the like.
  • Rotator Cuff Tendonitis can also occur due to wear and tear of the farm-related joints around the shoulder.
  • For the last cause of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, it can be Rotator Cuff Tendonitis in people who experience orgonomy or better known as bad posture.

Every cause of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis must also have symptoms, I summarized some of the symptoms of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis contained in this lesson, as follows:

  • When someone has been affected by Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, they will most likely feel pain and will feel pain in the joint in the shoulder to the upper arm when there is a strong touch.
  • Not infrequently there will also be swelling if it has experienced inflammation.
  • Usually will also experience weakness or fatigue easily, it is all caused by a lack of muscle strength in the shoulder.
  • There will be a clicking sound or like a break in the joint in the shoulder when doing repetitive work or movement.
  • Weakened range of motion may be due to stiffness around the joints in the shoulder.

As we have learned from the material provided, Rotator Cuff Tendonitis not only has causes and symptoms, but Rotator Cuff Tendonitis also has stages. There are several stages that have been explained including: There is stage 1 which is categorized as a mild stage, stage 2 which is a moderate category, and finally stage 3 which is a severe stage.

  • Stage one
At this stage a person affected by Rotator Cuff Tendonitis will experience inflammation and irritation in the shoulder area.
  • Stage two
A person affected by Rotator Cuff Tendonitis will feel like there is a clicking sound on his shoulder or like a broken sound when doing activities that affect shoulder movement.
  • Stage three
In this last stage, the person with Rotator Cuff Tendonitis will experience a complete tear in the tendon.

2. How do you diagnose rotator cuff tendonitis? Any clinical examination or assessment tests? (Do not add treatment to this question)

After knowing the definition of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, along with the symptoms and causes, we will then summarize the diagnosis of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis. There are many possible methods of diagnosis, but the most commonly used are:

  • Anamnesis which includes ancestry such as family to work, surgical history, even past medical history.
  • The physical therapist or doctor will conduct an overall physical examination.
  • There will then be tests such as ultrasound, MRI, and X-rays to determine the extent of arthritis, muscle damage, and tendon rupture.
  • Finally, anthroscopy, a minimally invasive procedure, will be performed in order to diagnose rotator cuff tendoritis.

We also need special tests about Rotator Cuff Tendonitis. Among the many specialized tests, the following are some of the special tests that are often performed: Neer Test, Hawkins Kennedy Test, Jobe Test, Speed Test, and Yergason Trial Test.

  • Neer Test
This test is performed in order to determine the level of subacromial impingement.
  • Hawkins Kennedy Test
In this test is done with the intention of knowing the level of pressure around the shoulder.
  • Jobe Test
While in the Jobe test it intends to be able to know the level of strength or to determine the size of the supraspinatus tendon tear.
  • Speed Test
While the speed test intends to be able to determine the level of biceps tendon tear or pathology.
  • Yergason Trial Test
The last one aims to detect biceps tendonitis, as well as to determine the instability of the biceps tendon in the bicipital groove.

3. Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share pictures, gifs, or videos of you practicing, preferably gifs or videos.

In this 3rd assignment, I will practice 3 of the 4 exercises given. The ones I took were: Scapular Squeeze, Cross Body Shoulder Stretch, and Walk Slides.

  • Scapular Squeeze
This Scapular Squeeze exercise is very easy to do where we just take a sitting position, then squeeze the scapula. The purpose of this exercise is to strengthen the rhomboid muscle and also the trapezius muscle. For more details, please see the video below.
  • Cross Body Shoulder Stretch
In this Cross Body Shoulder Stretch exercise, the aim is to stretch the shoulder and is done by moving the criss body, the main goal is to be able to repair the muscles that have shortened to become more elongated because it causes pain compensation. In this stage I stretch each of the left or right sides for at least more than 5 seconds.

  • Walk Slides
In this Walk Slides exercise, the intention is to increase the range of movement of the shoulder joint and also to reduce pain. This exercise is very easy to do, by attaching the hand while holding the cloth to the wall, then pushing it up and down repeatedly. For more details, friends can see in my video below.

  • 4. Share your reviews after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individuals, or patients.

After doing the 3 exercises above, I feel the following:

    • Scapular Squeeze
I do this exercise in the early morning when the sun is just shining brightly, this exercise really makes my body feel more relieved and free from various stiffness in the body, as seen in the video above I do it in a sitting position. All the aches and numbness in the back of the body are reduced and make me more refreshed and excited to start the activity.
    • Cross Body Shoulder Stretch
The Cross Body Shoulder Stretch is the second exercise I learned and did in the morning. This exercise has a great effect on my shoulders and arms which makes me feel more relieved and comfortable while doing my routine. All the muscles and joints in the shoulder felt better and firmer and free from all the aches, while doing the movements felt lighter and easier than before.
    • Walk Slides
The Walk Slides exercise, which I actually saw for the first time after learning about it in the guide. When doing this exercise, my whole body felt an upward pull, where I was standing and my hands were against the wall holding a cloth like someone wiping a wall. The soreness and numbness in all my wrists and muscles were reduced from my feet to my hands. And after practicing it repeatedly the body is getting fresher and lighter from all the stiffness so that it is more enthusiastic when doing daily activities.

That's what I wrote this time in following the student Physical Therapy Intervention: Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, held by @ashkhan. Thank you to all my friends who have stopped by my post.
