Residents reject the talk of relocating Rohingya to the PMI Aceh building.
Residents of Darul Imarah and Peukan Bada Districts, Aceh Besar, reject the plan to place Rohingya refugees in the PMI Dormitory in the Ajuen Jeumpet area, Darul Imarah District, Aceh Besar.
They conveyed this rejection in a joint meeting initiated by PMI Aceh, regarding plans to temporarily place Rohingya refugees in the PMI Dormitory in Ajuen Jeumpet, Wednesday (3/1/2024) yesterday.
The cross-sector meeting was attended by the Chair of PMI Aceh, Representatives from UNHCR, Forkopimcam Darul Imarah and Peukan Bada, Keuchik and community leaders from Ajuen and Jeumpet Ajuen.
During the meeting, residents of Darul Imarah and Peukan Bada Districts, Aceh Besar, refused to place Rohingya refugees in PMI Ajuen Jeumpet, because it involved the community's comfort and mental readiness.
Apart from that, they assume that the flow of Rohingya refugees continues to arrive in Aceh, so it is very likely that they will also be placed in the PMI Ajun Jeumpet Dormitory, which could disturb the comfort of the surrounding community.
Especially the villages closest to the PMI Ajun Dormitory. Apart from that, the location around the dormitory is a densely populated and residential area.
The Head of Darul Imarah Subdistrict, Muhammad Basir, said that the community around the PMI dormitory location strongly objected to the plan to place Rohingya refugees.
The reason is that this location is not adequate to be used as a shelter for the Rohingya ethnic group due to security issues.
Moreover, currently Indonesia will face the democratic party next February. Apart from that, the Ajuen area is a densely populated area, people are a little afraid about the information currently developing regarding the behavior of the Rohingya ethnic group.
