The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) together with the Aceh Provincial Government held a Coordination Meeting to discuss the resolution of provisions for former Free Aceh Movement (GAM) combatants. This coordination meeting took place at the Aceh Governor's Office, on Friday, 12/07/2024.

Through this meeting, the Director General of Agrarian Management, Dalu Agung Darmawan, said that the Ministry of ATR/BPN together with the Aceh Provincial Government wanted to ensure that the stages required for the legality of land provision could be accelerated.

"Procuring land for former GAM combatants during President Jokowi's leadership was a priority for Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). "So the Ministry of ATR/BPN together with the Aceh Provincial Government will ensure that they will accelerate and speed up all the stages necessary for the legality of providing the land," explained Dalu Agung Darmawan.

It is known that providing detention for former GAM combatants is one of the government's important commitments as stated in the Helsinki MoU and Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning the Government of Aceh. This aims to help former combatants transition to civilian life, improve the welfare of combatants and their families, and support the peace process in Aceh.

Thus, each Ministry/Agency and Regional Government considers it necessary to discuss procedures for legalizing the transfer of land that will be given to these former GAM combatants.

"In this meeting we discussed the legal procedures for transferring forest land to productive land that can be used by former combatants," explained the Director General of Agrarian Management.

The number of former GAM combatants who need to be facilitated is 3,000 people. The Ministry of ATR/BPN and related agencies have made efforts to look for potential land sourced from land in Other Use Areas, namely expired Cultivation Rights, abandoned land, state land, and forest areas whose functions can be transferred in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

"From these efforts, we finally obtained 22,000 hectares of land located in East Aceh Regency," explained Dalu Agung Darmawan.
