Bireuen Government Distributes Aid to Flood Victims in Peusangan District.

The Government of Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, through the Social Service (Dinsos) and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) distributed panic aid to flood victims in Cot Nga Peusangan Village.

Panic aid in the form of food and drinks was handed over to the refugee post, in Gampong Cot Nga, Peusangan, Friday, 28/6/2024. The aid during the panic period was handed over by Muntasir as Resos staff at the Bireuen Social Service to the Village Secretary (Sekdes) Cot Nga, Hendri Yunan accompanied by residents.

Muntasir said that the assistance provided was in the form of mineral water and food ingredients such as instant noodles, rice, sardines or canned fish, sugar, cooking oil, milk, bread or biscuits, soy sauce, and others.

Cot Nga Peusangan Village Secretary, Hendri Yunan, expressed his gratitude to the Bireuen Regency Government and the Social Service, BPBD for handing over panic aid to the flood victim refugee post.

The impact of the overflow flood occurred early Friday morning, 100 heads of families (KK) with a total of 250 people from Mesjid Hamlet, Cot Baro Hamlet, Meunasah Hamlet took temporary refuge while waiting for the water to recede and the house to be cleaned.

To meet the food needs of the community, the Government of Gampong Cot Nga opened a public kitchen, because most of the residents in flooded houses could not cook because they were still flooded.

"The height of the overflow flood in Cot Nga is around 30 cm to 70 cm, the flood conditions are starting to recede, but the settlements are still flooded," said the Village Secretary.

In order to prevent and overcome so that Gampong Cot Nga and its surroundings are no longer hit by postal floods, the Bireuen Regency Government is expected to carry out repairs to the river bank and also normalize the river channel starting from Gampong Cot Keuranji through to the sea.

"In every sub-district Musrenbang, handling river channels to prevent flooding, we have always proposed this for five years, but it has not been realized. We hope that the Bireuen Regency Government can normalize and repair the river channel embankments," hoped Village Secretary Cot Nga.

The Chief Executive (Kalaksa) of BPBD Bireuen, Afwadi, through Pusdalops-PB Officer, M Rakjab, explained that the floods that hit several villages in Peusangan District occurred after Bireuen City and its surroundings were hit by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, Thursday evening, 27 June 2024.

The village hit by flooding, namely Gampong Paya Meuneng, flooded, submerged one house with four people. Gampong Paloh also has one house inhabited by four people, Gampong Alue Peuno which was affected by three houses totaling three families, 13 people.

Then Gampong Cot Nga, Mesjid Hamlet, the total number of residents affected was 30 houses, 35 families, 150 people, Cot Baroh Hamlet, 35 houses, 35 families, 150 people, Meunasah Hamlet, 26 houses, 28 families, 115 people.

Gampong Alue Udeung overflowing water from the river channel flooded 7 houses occupied by 7 families, 33 people. In Mata Mamplam village, 40 houses were affected. For evacuees from 96 houses, 98 families with a total of 328 people, most of the flood waters have receded, he explained.

Efforts were made by the Bireuen BPBD, apart from going to the location and carrying out the data collection process, the Bireuen Regency BPBD Quick Reaction Team (TRC) personnel have also distributed aid logistics during panic to the residents of Cot Nga who
opened a public kitchen, explained Rakjab.
