The 5 essential Metroidvania games of this generation.

When we talk about games of the Metroidvania genre, we refer to action adventures and platforms that have within their characteristics a non-linear level progress that enables free progress of the scenarios, as we advance, an evolution of the protagonist, acquire new skills and, what most characterizes the genre, a 2d perspective.

Having said that, here I bring you a top 5 the best Metroidvania of this generation. All based on my opinion.

#5 Guacamelee! 2

Everything we saw in the previous installment, in this one was improved. The video game manages to express all the Mexican folklore and the concepts of Metroidvania are developed by sequences of platforms and wrestling movements. One of its greatest successes is that it allows the local cooperative, which considerably improves the gaming experience.

#4 Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

Few games today have level design and artwork as wonderful as the sequel to Ori and the Blind forest. This new installment chooses to use the same formula but tweaking game concepts, adding new challenges, challenges to the adventure and, unsurprisingly, improving the picturesque graphics of the previous installment. A great exclusive from Microsoft.

#3 Dead Cells.

This is an adventure that mixes Metroidvania with rogue-like and a bit of the souls saga. Our character will learn new skills and techniques that will be useful to him to get out of a cabin that generates levels in a procedural way.

The first time you play it is a bit frustrating, but as you get used to it, it should be noted that the difficulty increases progressively, which makes this experience a real challenge.

#2 Blasphemous.

Blasphemous is one of last year's big indie releases. It's a Metroidvania inspired by souls-like games, but with platform levels and, obviously, a 2d view. All this accompanied by a history and audiovisual work linked to a religious and violent theme. In true Souls style, Blasphemous is demanding and has no compassion in doing it, but that does not detract from how entertaining it can be, since with the scenarios and the bosses you find they will make you want more of this fantastic indie.

#1 Hollow Knight.

And we finish this top with the game that most represents the essence of the Metroidvania, Hollow Knight. This game is pure essence and structure of the genre. Once we get into this adventure, with the souls-like concepts and the high challenge, it will be one of the most rewarding and engaging experiences of the current generation of console. Hollow Knight is the game that takes this position because it is the one that most adheres to the concept of the Metroidvania and does it in an unforgettable way
