History.

The game takes place in 1996, two years after the events of the original movie. Ellis, a former police officer and war veteran, travels to the Black Hills forest in Burkittsville, to join the search group for a missing child, nine-year-old Peter Shannon. Bring his pet dog, Bullet, with him. As he drives into the woods, he calls his ex-girlfriend, Jess. When he arrives in the woods, in a field taken by the police as a mission base, with several parked cars, he takes his flashlight, acquires a walkie-talkie and begins the search, in parallel with the performance of the police, led by Sheriff Lanning .

Wasted history.

Many people get goosebumps when they remember that 1999 film, imposing a new style of recording looking more like a home camera and giving the impression that the end result if it had happened in the lives of those young people. Bloober Team had the laid foundations of a great universe to exploit, but it has not reached its full potential.

But there is no underestimating them either, the game is scary and in more than one making us jump out of the chair but in the while we play we do not feel that we are in the world of Blair Witch but in one more game of the bunch. The game manages to execute its mechanics in a good way but the link between the game and the movie is a bit weak. Unfortunately the same thing happens with the enemies that work but it is not possible to fully understand what is your connection with the witch. However, in the last stages of the game everything takes on a different air and things begin to end. But despite this, it really pays off to get to the end.

A good friend.

In almost all games of this style it is customary for the player to be alone, occasionally accompanied but for a very short part of the story. In Blair Witch it is not like that. Here we are introduced to Bullet, a dog that becomes our best friend almost instantaneously. Although his relationship with us might be less mechanical, having us by his side in the most tense moments is something that is greatly appreciated; Bullet can perform many actions but the truly functional ones are when we send them to follow a trail or an object, it will also alert us when we have a creature nearby.

As for the confrontations with the creatures, the mechanics are not very clear, since in most cases we will limit ourselves to running leaving the attacks behind. The appearance of these beings will not be our only stumble through the forest, because the game has a few puzzles. Most of those are very simple, limiting yourself to two possibilities: gathering necessary objects from a list and altering reality with tapes that we find as we explore. On the other hand, there are other more complex ones that are not so necessary for the story but a reward and one more possibility to explore the different scenarios.

Technical section.

Although the story focuses on the forest, it is very surprising how varied the settings can be. At a graphic level, the game is quite good and adding the good design it has, it makes it one of the outstanding ones in recent years, and the performance cannot be blamed for anything.

Blair Witch stands out for its sound level, not for how well it is achieved, but the choice of each sound on stage is a great success for the game.

Verdict.

Bloober Team returns in a wonderful way to the terrain of horror, leaving aside the most iconic genres of recent times. Although they have not been able to make the most of this story as you progress, more and more interest is generated in discovering what will happen at the end of this adventure.

It may waver a bit in various aspects, but for those who enjoy this type of experience and are lovers of the genre, without a doubt, this is a video game that cannot be missed.
