Independent (Music Themed 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge)

There has been a lot of songs about Independent Women, which may be about female empowerment. Talking about independence, there are artists who also released songs with the title "Miss Independent". The first one was Kelly Clarkson during the first half on 2000s, while on the second half was from NeYo.

Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent" has quite a different meaning by which a woman who used to be independent, and won't rely to anyone has lowered (or changed) her outlook in order to give way for love. But at least the song is showing that too much independence won't do either, that there should be balanced. The song became a top 10 hit in countries like US and UK, and helped bridge mainstream success from her American Idol stint.

The song of NeYo is about a guy falling in love with an independent woman. The song is catchy, and it made me think it is like an answer to "No Scrubs" and "Bills Bills Bills" of 1999, which are about women who doesn't like dependent guys on women they call "Scrubs". But this one from NeYo, for sure he's not a "Scrub" but he prefers a woman who doesn't depend on men. "Miss Independent" also became a Billboard top 10 hit, and also a hit in many territories.
