Elephant pearls. (ගජමුතු)🤤 |BATTLE MONTH|10
What are "Gajamuthu?"
There are nine types of pearls in this world and Gajamuthu are one of them which is shiny, white gold colored, soft, round or oval shaped, rare and come in different sizes from a pebble upto an egg. A bloody colour and a small shape of a Tusker can be seen inside of real Gajamuthu when those are exposed to light and those can't be damaged by hitting even on a concrete floor since those bounce instead.
From where those Gajamuthu come from?
Tusks are the two fronth teeth of Tuskers(ඇතුන්) which grow continuously and help Tuskers to lift things, gather food, fight and protect the trunk. Gajamuthu are rarely formed inside of the holes between these tusks and flesh of some Tuskers. So, a sound of a little bell can be heard when a Tusker with Gajamuthu walks.
Why are Gajamuthu so valuable?
Rare things are valuable and there is another reason. Tusker is the animal who carry the tooth relic in Esela perahara as we all have seen and the vehicle of the god Sumana Saman. So according to astrology, touching, keeping, worshiping and wearing a jewellery made from pearls comming from such a noble animal give glory, fortune and wealth. But rituals such as polishing, washing with turmeric water and incenseding must be correctly done on
Gajamuthu.
Why is it illegal to gain and sell Gajamuthu?"
This question was one of my mystery back then. Gajamuthu must be gained from a dead Tusker and not from killing an innocent animal which is a sin, brings misfortune and illegal. Killing tuskers for pearls has become a business now. That's why those people are caught by people.
The value of Gajamuthu extends from 10 lakhs to 50 lakhs. So they are known as the most valuable thing can be gained from an animal. I don't know whether those can bring fortune. But I know that no any animal should be killed to gain anything.
This is one of the topics that I haven't read many facts about. But however, your article gives a number of important facts in detail and it could be very well understood by anyone. You've done a great job! I too gained a clear idea about the value and the imporatnce of 'Gaja Muthu'. Well done dear!

@kashvibhagya ,
This this the baddest thing peoples do for taking gaja muthu.
I have seen one pepper article about teeth of Tuskers caught by custom and remaining blood was there.
Its mean hunters was killed tuskers for it.

Yes this hunting must be stopped. They who are a valuable animal specie don't deserve to die like this just because for a humans' business.
The population of wild elephants has been reduced remarkably at present in Sri-Lanka and this smuggling has contributed to reach that level. It is doubtful whether relevant authorities in Sri-lanka are taking necessary actions to avoid this circumstance.
Elephants are national resources to us and I call this as a national disaster.
I also think so. Strong laws must be implemented in order to prevent this.
I learned a lot about Gajamuthu from your article. You answered every question that I was curious about Gajamuthu.
This is so interesting. Wow! It such an amazing thing to hear.
However, killing animals for people's needs is so sad. Poor animals.

Very valuable article. I do not know much about pearls. But the fate of these creatures is very sad because of the value given to these pearls. If there is so much luck in these pearls, how lucky should the animal bearing the pearls be? If so lucky, I wonder why these beasts got a spirits
Thank you😊!
Exactly. But tuskers seem the one of the most unlucky animal due to this disater though they are the bearers of one of luckiest things.
