With A New Menu, Sassy Teaspoon In Juhu Brings Delicious French Charm To The Mumbai Cafe Scene

France has inspired so much; be it from fashion to culture to food. In the financial capital of Mumbai especially, it has inspired eateries to a great extent. We're certain you've seen colourful macaroons on the counter and French flags tucked in corners of cafes you've visited. Sassy Teaspoon is like no other, however. The premium patisserie chain has been around since 2016 and along with their new outlet in Mumbai's plush Juhu area, they also launched a new menu which we were invited to experience.

The Ambiance
Located on Juhu Tara road, the pastel shock of pink welcomed us into the tiny bakery. A large glass counter that displayed pastries on one side was surrounded by pink themed decor and wall flowers. Tiny circular tables lent an almost Parisian charm, accompanied by cute wall art and colour pops through the decor.

The Menu
Sassy Teaspoon's new menu goes beyond the cakes and pastries they are best known for. It includes sandwiches, wraps and croissant sandwiches in the savoury department with a selection of waffles and croissants for dessert. Beverages include traditional coffees done hot or cold.

The Food

Grilled chicken croissant sandwich at the Sassy Teaspoon

We started off with a Grilled Chicken Croissant Sandwich which started our experience with a bang. The savoury take on croissants saw it sliced horizontally and generously filled with a green chicken spread. It was a bite to delight as crisp cuts of granny smith apples and chunks of egg were a unique part of the wholesome sandwich. Savoury croissant sandwiches aren't yet common in the Mumbai food arena and we're certain this one will be setting the trend to make that so.

Next up was the Korean Chicken Wrap, which I was curious to see how Asian flavours would feature in the wrap. Crispy fried chicken chunks met a sweet, creamy chilli sauce and packed quite a punch. The generous portion was a flavour bomb in itself, set with greens for a fresh bite.

Wrapping up our meal was the Belgian Chocolate Croissant which looked like any other from the outside but turned out to be quite a treat when cut open. While coated with dark chocolate and drizzled with almond slivers, it did taste a bit dry until melted chocolate oozed from the centre. We washed our meals down with a café latte and cold coffee, which were enough of a caffeine hit that didn't take away from our meals.

The Highs And Lows
The savoury croissant sandwich hit all the high notes for us; creamy and fresh with a surprising combination of ingredients. While the options on the new menu were limited, it's important to note that whatever items we did taste were delectable so maybe the focus on a few but fantastic items is a good idea. Beverages could also afford to have more choices to go with different tastes along with a meal.
