It's European football's showpiece event, the pinnacle of club football and a night to celebrate a match between 2 greats. A night where fans arrive early and in good spirits, optimistic for what might come and the glory with it. But not in Paris.

In the build up to the game, fans arriving early were greeted with security check after security check. Fans funnelled into dangerously overcrowded underpasses and police officers intent upon finding trouble where there was none to be found. Security gates refusing to open and news of French gangs in operation, taunting the police at every junction resulting in innocent families, with children as young as 9 years old unable to escape as the police and stadium security indiscriminately pepper sprayed anybody in sight. Kick off being delayed by 40 minutes due to "the late arrival of fans" who had been queueing for over 4 hours in the most disorganised Champions League Final in the history of football.

Fans were turned away for possessing "fake tickets", including the ticket provided by Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson, supplied by UEFA themselves. The lies from UEFA and the French police in the build up and following the game a disgrace - in the age of social media and a huge volume of media shared, their lies will not be accepted.

If the police were intent on causing trouble, then they should have stayed around for the final whistle. Where French gangs were allowed to mug helpless fans as they left the ground, the police nowhere to be seen. Many Liverpool players including Joel Matip's family were mugged and well known commentator Jim Beglin's family suffered the same fate. Countless fans have repeated the same stories. Respected journlists and media, caught up in the chaos - all of which UEFA have blamed on "fake tickets". If UEFA consider their own tickets to be fake, then it's no surprise that the night was a farce.

In between all of this, there was a football match and it's a shame that Courtois' heroics weren't matched by the French police. Real Madrid won.
