Here are my photos for today of a Grasshopper.

Grasshoppers belong to the order Orthopetra and there are over 11,000 species worldwide. This one is the Differential Grasshopper.

The information provided is about all grasshoppers in general except when specified. Females are longer than males and their size depends on the species. They use their long hind legs for jumping and have string-like structures located in their knees which catapults them 10 inches high in the air. Grasshoppers have wings and they do fly.

All grasshoppers have a large appetite and can do some serious damage to crops. It is estimated that they do billions of dollars of damage to crops every year.

Differential grasshoppers eat tall grasses and ragweed which is a good thing for allergy sufferers.

Grasshoppers spit a brown liquid as a defense mechanism. Some call it tobacco juice because they are known so well for their destruction of tobacco crops. The main predators of all grasshoppers are birds, rodents, large insects, lizards, snakes and monkeys.

Look at how well it blends in with the grass; nature's camouflage.

Thanks for stopping by!

All photos are my own.

Saludos amiga. De nuevo con la espera de nuevos insectos.
Felicitaciones a los ganadores de esta semana pasada.!!
Nos vemos pronto!

Greetings friend.@whatisnew. Again waiting for new insects.
Congratulations to the winners of this past week!
See you soon!

Aw, you are still waiting Cheerleader? I hope you don't have to wait much longer. : )

Ahhhh I'm already bored. My insects don't love me anymore. No spiders, no bugs, no butterflies. I think I should go look for them in other wooded places. LOL.
By the way, I like their grasshopper, although they are evil. Greetings friend @watisnew, see you soon.

Great post and photos @whatisnew!! I don't see too many grasshoppers around here but I suspect the outside cats may have something to do with that. If only I could train the cats to go after the Japanese beetles..lol. This is my entry this week: https://steemit.com/insectpub/@deerjay/the-dreaded-japanese-beetle

Thanks @deerjay! Oh, that would be nice if cats ate Japanese beetles. Mine would have very full bellies. LOL! Thanks for your entry. : )

You're very welcome @whatisnew! 🙂

90kxcs.png very much @whatisnew ! I'm happy you enjoyed my artistic butterfly, even if it was randomly chosen ^_^

Congratulations to all !

My pleasure! I really did enjoy your artistic butterfly. I could never judge because I like everything entered and I want to give everyone a chance. What is that cute little work of art above? I love it! Does it have a name?

I understand, I don't like to choose either, I better make a draw if I have a contest 😉 And you are right, it gives everyone a chance 😊

This cow is my LazyCow , most of my characters do have an adjective + noun as name...LoL...but sometimes they get a real name, that is btw the subject of one of my contest (NameIt) 😃

I used to catch these large grasshoppers for my pet turtles when i was a kid. The turtles loved them.

So you have had wildlife as pets since you were a kid? No wonder you like them so much. That is interesting to know that turtles like to eat grasshoppers. Thanks for the info @sketch.and.jam. : )

They would rush towards me if they caught a glimpse of grasshopper in my hand lol.

That is definitely a sign that turtles love grasshoppers. I am laughing picturing the turtles running towards you and the grasshoppers. LOL!

Hi :) That is a beautiful grasshopper. Looks pretty big.
Here' s my entry for this week.
