RE: Kawthoolei New Village Hospital - Karen Indigenous Community in Eastern Burma Opens Its First Hospital
That's a wonderful project to be involved in. I have a question: Why is Korean and English spoken at the clinic?
Great question! 😊 The donors who funded the hospital are Korean, as is the hospital's doctor-director... and many of the visiting clinicians & medical educators. The local people only speak Karen & some very basic English. It's a linguistic meeting of needs, rather than a deliberate choice. The Korean team all speak some English too. 😊 I was most definitely the only blonde at the opening ceremony 🤣 and my very good Thai language skills utterly useless. It was a fascinating cultural experience. 😊
